If you go from living with parents to moving and living with random roommates

Does that count as being on your own or not since you're still staying with somebody?

Umm think that makes you independent

Yeah, I think it does. Random roommates won't have your back, parents usually help. Like, they most probably won't be mad at you if you eat their bread because you forgot to buy your own. 😅 I also think it's easier to set rules with parents about kitchen and bathroom than random roommates. Like who cleans what and when. Depends on individual families and hygienic standards of both family and roommates though..

Well you have to do your own washing and ironing and the dishes don't magically wash themselves like before. Nor does food suddenly appear in the fridge and cupboards so you're on your own in that respect.

@PatientlyWaiting25 Who says you don't have to do that while you live with parents though? Do your dishes and their dishes. Do your laundry and their laundry. They buy food they like, you buy food you like. Different households have different rules.

Yes. Regardless of the actual circumstances, most will assume that you are more responsible for yourself because you don’t live with your parents.
