Are oranges called oranges because they are orange or is orange called orange because oranges are orange?

This is what my mind is wondering *sigh*🙄

You made me actually look this up out of curiosity. 😂 Turns out, it's the latter. The first use of the word "orange" refers to the fruit while the color was later named after the fruit. 🍊

First the fruit. The color was generically called "red" or "yellow-red" until Renaissance
