Look into telomere aging! Very interesting research.
Wiseacre · F
@samueltyler2 yes, yes, exactly. We can lengthen our telomeres, did uk?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Wiseacre i am not anti-advances in medicine, as long as they are logical and have sound scientific bases.
Wiseacre · F
@samueltyler2 sometimes it works without scientific evidence.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Wiseacre then how can you be sure it works? As stated by Harry Potter, "Antidotes are anti-don'ts unless approved by a qualified healer." In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Wiseacre · F
@samueltyler2 nutraceuticals for instance: they work for some, not others. Anti aging science is young.

@Wiseacre Or placebo effect. I studied that effect once. It may not really be an effect per se, but may be the range of normal, or in some, the mind-body reaction may be real. Either way, if it works, and has no side effects and doesn't bankrupt the user, I am all for it. N=Many medications we used in the past were based on plant products whose use was part as folklore then found to be real.

Tell me a drug sans side effects. Did uk a diabetes drug, Metformin, is anti-aging. I take it, and am better for it. @samueltyler2
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Wiseacre there is a lot of information suggesting metformin. No I haven't taken it, but have considered it.
Wiseacre · F
@samueltyler2 old drug, well researched. I want to take Rapamycin once a week, but my doctor has no experience with it. So I intermittently fast, which might be as good. The goal is to improve cellular health.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Wiseacre there is some data to suggest intermittent fasting might actually be good for health. There are some who claim rapamycin can be life prolonging, but it's licensed use is for anti-rejection
Wiseacre · F
Right on, with lots of side effects, however, once a week is recommended for anti aging. Intermittent fasting promotes autophagy, which is necessary for good health. As we age, everything slows down. Therefore, we need boosts in every way we can. Metformin is a senolytic, which aids autophagy thru the AMPK pathway. @samueltyler2

@samueltyler2 have u heard of the Horvath Clock? It’s an epigenetics clock that measures ur bio age..by dr Steven Horvath.
