Why do some relationships go great and seem fine until a baby becomes involved?

I have known of a few cases in which the mother's love becomes so focused on the baby that the husband is ignored. That may be okay for a brief period, but if it becomes long term, the relationship will suffer serious damage.
@exexec Lived that to a "T" .. among other challenges .. and you nailed it for what it can do

Cause then reality sets in. Things like responsibility, lack of sleep, arguing over who works harder, changing sh*t deypers all the time, loss of freedom, just basically having your entire life disrupted. The man not having his needs met, and the woman often worried about the day the dad will want out of the situation and just split.

And then while the new parents are doing everything they can, outsiders are telling them they are bad parents. Also disgruntled neighbors or family threatening to call CPS over any little thing.

So things go from "romance" to "nightmare".
