Back when Netscape came about, if I recall correctly. I vaguely remember Gopher (Gopher Net) and other applications, and using dialup to access bulletin boards (BBS).

I remember getting to play with the very first IBM PC. One of the Winchester Drive team leaders was a family friend who work for IBM at the time. This was all in San Jose before it became Silicon Valley. Wasn’t connected to the Internet but nonetheless, it was an exciting experience. I had no idea how prolific they would become.

It was 1993, and we were staying with my wife’s aunt and uncle. Her uncle was a tenured professor in a university program that did work with NASA, so he always had the coolest telescopes, gadgets, and computer setup. He told me all about this thing called the internet, and he gave a demo on his computer station in their living room. I’m such a sports geek that I spent the rest of that afternoon just plugging away at sites with baseball and football stats and photos of historical players and game. Within a month, I had bought a PC with AOL dialup and was off to the races.

1999. I was at the library and someone was helping me get on the web. I had no clue what I was doing or looking at.
Eventually I learned to use chat rooms. I was hooked on those and bought my first used computer just for that purpose.

First computer i ever used was in Jr. Highschool in 1979... we were playing a game called lunar lander... first time i ever used the internet was around 1993 at a friends house.. we were using AOL chatrooms, that was back when you had to pay by the hour to use internet

I remember those early days using Netscape, then Prodigy and AOL. Those slow dial-up speeds.

Yes, in my dad's office some time in the late 90s. We didn't have it at home until about 2003. The web pages were extremely basic by today's standards.

Yes dial up was very loud lol and I typed in Xena warrior princess and like 40 insane windows popped up. I thought I did something terrible. It was like using a ouija board and unleashing ancient demons lol
Yep...back in the '80s. Dial up. LOL

Yes it broke when it fell off the work surface.

No, I just vaguely remember the first things I did on the computer and the internet.
Mudkip · 31-35, M
When I was in 1st, 2nd grade? Late 90's, early 2000's
Gabber · 22-25, F
@Mudkip I think i kinda remember what you're talking about
Mudkip · 31-35, M
@Gabber it was pretty simple, just move side to side and jump
HoeBag · 46-50, F
@Mudkip Hard to believe that people who were kids in the late 90's are now coming up on mid-life.
No, I don't ever remember there not being a computer around so the first time I used it doesn't feel significant in memory

Oh man, I wonder how Jeeves is doing these days
Gabber · 22-25, F
@TinyViolins I remember AskJeeves!
HoeBag · 46-50, F

I lost my internet virginity in 1997.
yeah. it was quite a time.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Yeah and it was on a Commodore 64 Ultimate. Slow as molasses in winter.
We had computers in primary school, but properly for myself, at home, in the early 90s.
Elessar · 31-35, M
There were GTA III guides to find and mods to download
Gabber · 22-25, F
@Elessar Ah, those were the days

@Somerset Of course

If bulletin board systems count, the early 80s.
Gabber · 22-25, F
@uncalled4 that’s pretty darn awesome!
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Gabber Thanks. It was my brother's VIC 20 and then C64. Not surprisingly, he's an IT guy today. But it was the dark ages. DOS only!
