If a stray dog started charging at you and instead of running away you run towards it do you think that'll confuse it or throw off the attack?

I don't know about stray ones but I did it with a dog with an owner and it backed off.

The correct response is neither the correct responses to calmly stand your ground and projects calm but very firm energy 9/10 of the time this will completely disarm the situation but if you do happen to take a bite take the bite on the arm and immediately attack. If the animal senses that this will possibly happen usually it will stop in its tracks
