In your opinion is it considered rude to not smile and simply say "how can I help you?" While working behind the counter

According to my boss that's rude and I should be cheery and welcoming to customers. I am welcoming I'm saying hi what can I get for you. I just don't smile or don't find it necessary to be animated. On another note if I'm busy making drinks I'm not going to look up to greet everyone. I just want to focus on making good drinks ok don't bug me.

Most jobs consider it rude not to greet the customer and a lot of customers do too.
I know it can be a generational thing but in general you should greet people who enter your shop.

@REMsleep We may be the same generation. millennial?

@Crimsondrops I am technically the youngest Gen X according to most charts or according to one or two I've seen, I am the eldest millennial.
I dunno. I am part of a micro generation that doesn't fit either perfectly but socially I am a millennial and would be most comfortable with millennials.

@REMsleep Makes sense depending on what chart you look at. I was born in 1988.
