There are no longer black licorice jelly beans in the standard Brach's bag anymore. I just learned it this Easter , the hard way.. 😭
@Coralmist Because millennials and zoomers consider them old people candy that tastes horribly like medicine, and since they're now the two generations with the strongest buying power, Brach's acquieced.

@NativePortlander1970 I would have never equated that spicy awesome flavor to old people. That is really something.. wow. :(
@Coralmist I Love, Love, Love, black licorice, it has been a favorite non chocolate since early childhood, and it angers me how the two younger generations have destroyed its reputation. However, it does contain medicinal qualities as a natural cough suppressant and helps with sore throats as horehound tea, its natural state.

Fredric Baur, the inventor of the Pringles can, is buried in one
@AngelofFail I heard this one too
A second is called a second because it is the 2nd division of the hour by 60 (pars minuta secunda), the 1st division being a minute (pars minuta prima).

Normally, bacteria decaying a sunken body will bloat it with gas, causing it to float to the surface after a few days. But Lake Superior's water is cold enough year-round to inhibit bacterial growth, and bodies tend to sink and never resurface.

I learned this morning that neckties originated with Croatian mercenaries in the 17th century who tied red cloth around their neck. The French king liked the look and it spread from there. Sometimes they’re called a cravat, which comes from the French word for Croat.

The lungs of both genders contain receptors for sex hormones, and these play a role in the risk of death and lung disease.

It's illegal to own just one guinea pig in Switzerland
As per their 2008 pet right act
Wiseacre · F
@Ferric67 really, why?
Ferric67 · M
@Wiseacre the people of Switzerland see guinea pigs as too social to be by themselves
They need friends
Under their animal rights act, they included this
The 100 folds in a chef's hat represent 100 ways to cook an egg

In 1939, a 5-year-old Peruvian girl from a poor Andean village was brought to a local hospital with concerns about swelling in her stomach. Lina was one of nine children, and her parents feared that the growing bulge in her abdomen was a tumor, but it turned out to be something far more startling.

After giving Lina a full examination, the doctors delivered the shocking diagnosis. Lina was seven months pregnant. On May 14, 1939, Lina delivered a healthy, 6-pound (3-kilogram) baby boy via Cesarean section. She was exactly 5 years, 7 months and 21 days old, making her the youngest mother in recorded history.

@RenFur hard to believe...

@Wiseacre

It is. Doing an internet search produced no articles or reports doubting the accuracy of the claim. Apparently there is such a thing as precocious puberty. An example - https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3928858/

@meJess I can!
During the early stages of the development of multiple zygotes, instead of them becoming twin kids, sometimes they would fuse into one. That will result in one, often seemingly perfectly normal human being even though they're built out of multiple genetically distinctive DNAs. This is also known as a chimera.
@Reserved Multiple babies that are invitro together share the same DNA, they do not have individual distinctive DNAs
@NativePortlander1970 I think you're probably talking about identical twins, which is a different story. I'm talking about something that originates from multiple zygotes, which originated from multiple sperms and multiple eggs
@NativePortlander1970 You have good reasons to be confused though since usually a female release only one egg during each ovulation cycle, leaving no chance for multiple zygotes to be created. However, fraternal (dizygotic) twins do still exists because sometimes it's more than just one egg
