I used to be funny

I thought so anyway. Others swear I’m just trying to cope. Why can’t it be both?

You know why I couldn’t join the cancer support group out here? Because I’m offensive in my humor, and they’re kind and I didn’t want them to think I was making fun of them; just myself. My lymph nodes are swollen under my armpit and I can’t put my arm down. So I quoted A Christmas Story (when that kid was overly bundled up). “I can’t put my arms dowwwn! Waaah!”
And I said, “I’m a little teapot” when I had to walk around town with my arm perpetually on my hip.

“Please stop,” my sister begged. The situation at the time upset her more than me.

Not sure when my joking stopped, but I’m gonna get it back. I can take this seriously, learn from it, and still laugh about things.

As someone who uses humour to cope, it can have its downsides too. Even when I told a couple of friends of mine that my joking is just a disguise from my real thoughts and feelings, they thought I was joking.
I honestly can't think of anyone irl who takes me serious.

@LordShadowfire if I understand you correctly, yes. No doubt.

@SW-User I've been streaming old episodes of Family Guy recently, and I was trying to channel the absurdist paranoia that Adam West brought to his character on the show.

@LordShadowfire I do love the character Adam West in that series 😂

Humor is good and it helps one cope with the struggles they are facing.

Having a twisted dark sense of humor helps with coping ...for me too

I would laugh with you. I have a pretty sick sense of humor that I hold in very often because it is too fkd up for people. You should absolutely use laughter for whatever you need. It’s the only cliche thing I’ll agree to, laughter is the best medicine.

You'll manage, bro. I don't know you but your post struck me as humorous and I'm not sure if that was your intent.
I too am offensive. Never lose that part of your personality. You'll regain your sense of tumour in no time. Just close your eyes and make a wish.
@TrashCat You made my day. 🧡
You will get it back! You’ve got to have your silly times or what’s the point!

@DunningKruger I always read your stuff as sarcastic or facetious.
@DunningKruger Thank you. And I find you humorous.

I'm kind of the same way. I'm one of the 1% of men who ended up getting breast cancer, and I already had a twisted sense of humor. I got a post removed by staff that was a bit of gallows humor, which I still think is funny as hell. I will not share it unless specifically asked, however, as I was yelled at by another user for being offensive to cancer survivors. Like, whiskey tango foxtrot?
@LordShadowfire It sucks when the joke is received that way. And, damn, to have been so unfortunately rare. 😞

@Colonelmustardseed Wish I had that kinda luck when I buy a lottery ticket. 😆
