This cartoon has the most epic music. Masterpiece.

@SW-User Wow they changed it in Morocco.

This is one the I grew up with.

@Kwek00 It was actually dubbed in Lebanese studios and then spread to all Arab countries. They didn't change anything btw just went with the instrumental version. A bit before my time but my older siblings digged it. There's also the original French version (Les Mystérieuses Cités d'Or) since it's a joint Japanese-French anime but it's kinda bad imo.

@SW-User I've listened to it twice now, but it seems mixed too. This was one of my favourites. I even have all the seasons on my hard disk today. Really strong cartoon for it's time and it's originally a French-Japanese production. At that time, it was just cheaper to let your animation been done in Japan. A lot of American and European productions worked out the concept and the Japanese drew it. The aesthetics scream france to me though. 😅

@Kwek00 Interesting finding about it being mixed. Perhaps you're right. Now that you mention it I think the Arabic version plays at a faster tempo, too. Agreed, it's just legendary even though it sorta creeped me out in my childhood 🥲but I learned to appreciate it later. Too bad the following seasons sucked big time.

@SW-User I just found out on youtube, that there is actually a more modern sequel to this. I never saw that, plays in Asia apperently.

I just grew up with the original. For a kid I think it's pretty ideal, loads of adventure. And it's pretty fantastic, because it moves from a historical drama adventure story to a science fiction story. I also think that if this was made today, a lot of internet geeks would loose their shit about how "progressive" it is. A spanish kid with "white skin" accompanied by 2 other kids with a clearly diffrent skin tone. Two of them being latino (as in non-european, because I find it kinda weird for a Spanish kid to just throw him out of the latin category), a girl that knows what she wants 😱 and some severe criticism on 15th-16th century European colonialism.

@Kwek00 Yeah. I think somewhere in the series it was mentioned that Esteban's mom might have been Incan or Mayan (not sure) but he looks perfectly Spanish. Also those Olmecs with the pointed ears were just terrifying 😅 Not to forget Mendoza with his remarkable character 🎖

Such a good description of Mendoza’s personality & role👍🏽
I didn’t watch that anime as a kid but I came across it on Youtube 6-7 years ago. The music is awesome especially the orchestral, instrumental version (again 😅).

I watched a bit of the 1st episode if I recall correctly but it didn’t pique my interest. As an adult I can barely watch an anime that wasn’t part of my childhood. Is it any good?

@SW-User I kinda liked this, but I have to be honest, I've not seen this since I was a kid. I also was never able to find this for download in a good acceptable version. So my memory of it is realy distored. The art is really simple, but I like it a lot. If someone showed me this and asked me what country was behind it, I would guess "France". This just looks really french to me.

Yeah, Mendoza is quite the character, in the first episodes you might think that he's the antagonist. But he becomes a very likeable character as the story unfolds more and you learn more about the situation. It's always good to have characters that aren't all good or all bad, it's that conflict that makes them more human and intresting.

I watched way to much cartoons, because of my heavy allergies. I couldn't go out in certain seasons and I had to take an aerosol cure at least twice a days. So to keep me quiet, mom just put on the television. Since the dutch side of Belgian only had 2 channels at that time (and only 1 that broadcasted a few cartoons) I ended up watching French, German, English and Italian channels that happened to be on the cable. In France they had this incredible childrens' show called "Club Dorothée" which was just incredible. And is still a cult classic with people of my generation. They had so much cartoons that everyone found something. One of the funniest was "Nicki Larson", that came out as "City Hunter" in Japan.

About a private detective... that is way too horny for his own good 😅
