A Mark Twain quote

"I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

Mark Twain
Mathers · 61-69
“Some People Are Troubled by the Things in the Bible They Can’t Understand. The Things That Trouble Me Are the Things I Can Understand”
(Mark Twain)

@Mathers I love his sense of humor.

I love Mark Twain and that quote. He was a cool guy. Friends with Tesla, too.

After you go through enough shit, you stop fearing death so damn much.

Mark Twain: "Dancing is a vertical expression of a horizontal desire."
Carissimi · F
It’s true. All of us have been dead (not in existence) far longer than the fleeting life we have had. Life is a blink of an eye in terms of eternity. We have all been dead already, but once you experience life, the death you already experienced becomes something you don’t want again.

A man so trustworthy he didn't use his own real name
Mathers · 61-69
Oh good grief! That certainly puts out most writers in your view then! @Entwistle

@Entwistle You are as bright as a coal sack, eh?

@bats1959 And yourself as thick as a Boxing Day turd.

@StyleCat
Ok, non-existence, the point being... he didn't suffer the
slightest inconvenience from it. Which is his reason for not fearing death. I love his mind, I love his reasons. He takes a horrible thing like death, and makes it beautiful. Beauty from a beautiful mind, pick it apart all you want, and you miss the gist of what he's saying. It's comforting, and poetry, it's Mark Twain. He was a beautiful person, one that understood things that mere mortals only fear.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
What the heck had he been smoking?
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@Thevy29 What of what he said was factually wrong? All of us literally did not exist, at least in the way we do now, before we were born for billions of years.

I don't get the negativity.

Because it is a scary thought?
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
@Thevy29 Obviously the good shit.
The simple beauty of truth ❤️

Do you know how and what Samuel Clemens, came about to create his nom de plume Mark Twain?

He coined his name while on a riverboat is your clue.
gdon39 · 46-50, M
Good morning @Dv8rs Samuel Clemens was working on and riding on a River boat and as by their nature, rivers move a lot of dirt, sand and whatnot by the currents flow creating sand bars but not all are visible.

With that being said, the front of the boats “River man” drops a measuring stick in th water to measure the waters depth to determine if they can traverse the water way ahead.

The “River man “ would call out the waters depth and a River bout needs two fathoms of water or 12 feet and 12 feet would be called out as “mark Twain “. A half Twain is 6 feet

Mister Clemens fancied that for his nom de plume.
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
@gdon39 That's awesome, I love it. Lol, a half a Twain is 6ft. Thank you Mr. gdon39.
Now it will be a good morning.
gdon39 · 46-50, M
@Dv8rs you are so sweet to me.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Hopefully, on the good stuff.
StyleCat · M
Well, except that he wasn't dead though. You can't be dead if you didn't live first. What he was, was non existent. Still, its only details.
Dv8rs · 18-21, F
How do you know? Perhaps life, or existence, is death, and what we mortals perceive as death is just an eternal slumber, filled with mental activities for millions of years. After all, life is where we feel pain, some feel excruciating pain all their lives. Death would be a relief, a break from pain, death would be life. @StyleCat
StyleCat · M
@Dv8rs Well good luck with that!
yes, but no. the absence is unrecognizable.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@fakable What absence?
@GeistInTheMachine
Mark Twain
Entwistle · 56-60, M
He was obviously mistaken re the 'i'. The 'i' that he thinks was dead has never existed.
