@whowasthatmaskedman lol. Nothing wrong with a little honest bribery. 😉
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@LadyBronte And anything worth doing it worth overdoing...😷
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@whowasthatmaskedman Absolutely!
I deal with something like that as a part of one of the types of Synesthesia I have and it has dulled some now due to the medications I've had to take over the years and other factors.
I found it very frustrating to remember what someone said, how they said it, how they were standing, how the sun was shining, what they were wearing and the time of day plus so many other things and recalling them back to them and they'd still insist they "Don't recall" or they'd lie when I KNEW I was not wrong. I had no choice to remember everything that way.
Even when I tell a story I have to tell it in long form, exactly as it happened like a movie because that's how I see it in my head and am extremely verbose because of it. I thought having it dulled would bring me such relief, but honestly I find it anxiety inducing.
I remember all of my dreams too. Even the ones from decades ago and they often pick up where they left off years later.

@DancingStarGoddess As I was halfway though your reply, I planned to ask if you saw these memories like a movie playing in your head. Then I read further and saw you do. That is exactly what it is like for me. As though I am watching old home movies on a big screen...every word, expression, outfit, movement, nuance, right down to finest details like the of the warmth of the sun, the aroma of food in the oven...etc. It feels as though i could reach out and touch these memories. People who have watched me "remember", notice my eyes are moving as though I am literally seeing the scene. That's because I am. As I watch the "memory movie" play, I am looking around the room, from person to person, as though I am standing there in the same space I was when the original even took place. I've never known of anyone else who experienced memory like this. Sometimes it can bring a smile when I see the old home place and people who aren't here anymore, other times, remembering cruelty and betrayal is nearly more than I can handle.
As for dreams, I remember mine too, but they are usually (not always) nonsensical and more often than not, dont take up when they've left off.

I struggle to remember what I had for breakfast .... it is odd that I do remember some of my mistakes forever... and I am hard on myself about my weaknesses or shortcomings. I have noticed that I still have some degree of selective forgetfulness ? So that I don't completely remember everything. I also CHANGE my mind/thoughts ALOT. I am grateful that I DONT remember everything. I think it would crush my spirit. My therapist wants me to start saying nice things about myself-- which feels so egocentric. It's hard to do.but to live a happier life I have to turn my personal pov around.i may have veered off topic here a little bit... but yeah... no hyper memory for me please
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Mindful I understand what you are saying. I have had to learn to be kind to myself as well - it hasn't come naturally. But I find more peace now. My memory is often too great, Hyperthymesia would be much too much.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@LadyBronte *Hyperthymesia would be much too much.* agreed.
I'm glad you've found a way to be kind to yourself.

@Mindful Thanks!!

Marilu Henner from "Taxi" has this condition. Amazing, truly. And she always seems to be smiling... hmmm 🤔

@rinkydinkydoink Interesting. I didn't realize she was affected by it. For her career, Hyperthymesia would be a good thing. In her personal life, I would think it might not always be pleasant. 🤷🏼♀
Mbingh01 · 70-79, F
There are some things I've been working a lifetime to forget. So that's a hard pass for me!
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Mbingh01 Same.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
I think I’d have to pass on that.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@HikingMan Same here.
HikingMan · 51-55, M
@LadyBronte I’d never describe you with a single word.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@HikingMan Sorry about the typo. The reply makes more sense now. Lol.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
Think I'll pass ..
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan Same here.
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
I think I'd be insecure if I lived with that condition, wouldn't you second guess everything you did so you wouldn't mess up and have bad memories?
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@PatientlyWaiting25 That would be a real dilemma!
Blondily · F
Im not as bad as that but can remember as far back being in a crib and can remember things I wish Id forget.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Blondily While I don't remember the crib, I do remember riding an an infant car seat - back when they were for infants only. Lol. As for things to forget, there are a few I still work on daily.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
I have a reasonably good memory.
In saying that, hyperthymesia could be overwhelming with all the work life pressures and home front issues.
I would rather prefer tranquility and peace.

@scorpiolovedeep I too, would prefer peace.
scorpiolovedeep · 51-55, M
Yes !! @LadyBronte
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
That would be very very bad.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@EldritchFox Agreed
Oneofthestormboys · 56-60, M
I do already. Even more so when I’m dreaming. Sometimes it’s really nice, other times it’s truly awful.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Oneofthestormboys That I do understand.Not so much in dreams, but in recall. You are so right, depending on the memory, it can be either uplifting or totally excruciating.
PhoenixPhail · M
It would be both a curse and a blessing. Which one would be determined by my state of being.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@PhoenixPhail I can see positives, but the negatives would outweigh the positives for me.
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
I can holde a grudge way longer than I wish to, so for me it would be a curse.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@TheRealBarbossa Fair enough. That would make it worse.
There are some things I'd rather forget.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@MsSwan Same. I continue to work on those.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
There’s truth in the saying
Ignorance is Bliss
If you had this condition does it mean you also remember and feel every single emotion you had when these things happened to you or do your feelings about them they fade with time?

LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Ben1000 I would think the feeling remains if the memory is exact and pure.
Ben1000 · 41-45, M
@LadyBronte it would an awesome party trick and great for sitting exams, but in normal everyday life I’d imagine it would horrible.
Humans tend to think about the negative more than the positive so would be some heavy thoughts ahead.

LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@Ben1000 I have to agree with that. My memory and level of empathy is bad enough. I feel like Hyperthymesia would be excruciating.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
It would be alright if it was just factual memories, but too overwhelming if it came with all the emotions attached.
LadyBronte · 61-69, F
@FreddieUK Re-living memories complete with a full array of emotions would definitely make it a killer.
