What were your most tearful and poignant moments of the funeral of HRH Queen Elizabeth II?

Most tearful moment: When her royal bagpiper walked away from the church 😔🤍

Most poignant moment: No surprise there…I was moved by the very elegant bouquet of flowers that adorned the coffin of the most powerful and loved ruler in the world. 💐

At King Charles’s request, the wreath on top of the Queen’s coffin contains flowers and foliage from the royal properties of Buckingham Palace and Clarence House, in London, and Highgrove House in Gloucestershire. Also at the King’s request, the wreath was sustainable, and affixed in a nest of English moss and oak branches.
The wreath contains myrtle, the ancient symbol of a happy marriage, cut from a plant that was grown from a sprig of myrtle in the Queen’s wedding bouquet in 1947. It also contains rosemary as a symbol of remembrance and English oak, a national symbol of strength, in a nod to the Queen’s constancy and steadfast duty. Other foliage includes pelargoniums, garden roses, autumnal hydrangea, sedum, dahlias, and scabious.

It was far from perfect….or was it? 🫶🏼💐

May The Queen’s soul rest in heavenly peace 🙏🏼💝🥀🤍💐 Amen 🙏🏼

It was kinda sad when they lowered her body, even though I missed it because i was messing around on here 😂 but the replays were sad 😭

@Vivaci But one thing occurs to me. How does England reconcile being a Christian monarchy, symbolically or otherwise being run by the Church of England, with the values and needs of various racial, ethnic, and religious communities in a diverse country? I heard that a rabbi said that as a Jewish person, he feels like a tolerated guest rather than an equal member of society.
@RedBaron I’ve lived there for a few years and I felt so welcome there always. People walking on streets greeting each other politely, no gun culture, lots of tolerance to weirdness and people with a good sense of humor….what more can you ask from any country you’re visiting for short/long term?
RedBaron · M
@Vivaci But are you a religious or ethnic minority? The queen’s funeral was beautiful and moving, but it clearly demonstrated that the Church of England holds sway in the country’s culture unlike anything we have here in the states. Not saying it’s a bad thing, but I wonder how those who aren’t white and Christian feel about it.

I had to start work, did they televise the burial?
@JimboSaturn She was such a gentle, sophisticated and private person. 😢💝
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Vivaci Yes I can relate to her; she liked gardens dogs and horses pretty much a country girl.
@JimboSaturn Lol…same…🤗💐 that was part of HRH’s charm.

Indeed…🥺

I didn't watch it (working) but she was quite something.
fun4us2b · M
@Vivaci Agreed 💯 common decency should be the baseline...and then we go on from there to see who's the best suited to lead...
@fun4us2b yes…you’re right! Good upbringing matters….not just money. Usually people with new money behave arrogantly and show off…have you noticed that? 😄
fun4us2b · M
@Vivaci Yes, when it comes too easily people become caricatures of themselves... but I like to think they would have been jerks even if they didn't make a lot of money....

I caught a little of the outdoor procession this morning while eating breakfast.

I am glad it stopped raining.

When Reagan died, I walked out of my office in DC to see his casket go by.
@JoyfulSilence You should watch the funeral ceremony, Joy…I know you’ll like it. 😇

Good…send us some of those rain clouds man 🌧

Wow…💟🙏

@Vivaci

I found it playing on PBS last night. But only the end where she journeyed to the chapel and was taken down.

Those pipes and drums! I wanted to get up, put on a tall fuzzy hat, and march.

Beautiful voices in the choir!

Oh, my comment about the rain was in reference to London.

We could use a little here. But the weather is heavenly: sunny, clear, dry, breezy, and about 80. I am dining outside now - a late lunch.

Working near Capitol Hill had its interesting moments!

Although that era of my life is over.

I wish that i could have watched it. They should have given us the day off.

I was tearful when I went to the shop only to find it bloody shut 🙄
😤 You stood out from the rest. @Whodunnit
Whodunnit · M
@Vivaci Sorry, I've just not been particularly affected by her death, I was however affected by not being able to shop.

I'm sure it's a sad day for some, but I never met her, didn't know her, and my life and hers didn't intersect at any point. I have no reason to be moved beyond having a vague interest in current affairs.
@Whodunnit Understandable.

I didn't get to watch all of it ...but what I did see gave me chills
@SW-User and what was that, Cherny? 😳
RedBaron · M
Why do people talk about the dead resting in peace, and what are they resting for? It's not as if they're going to wake up refreshed. I have always wondered about that.
RedBaron · M
@Vivaci Exactly, which is why it's dumb IMO. A dead person is not sleeping but actually an inanimate object. And in a case like the queen, no disrespect intended, she was 96, so people should be happy that she lived such a good, long life, not so sad that she died. An elderly person's natural death is not tragic. Only violent deaths and younger people dying are really tragic.
@RedBaron We all have our own way of grieving and depending upon the influence and popularity of a person, their funerals will be different….as also the circumstances and beliefs that they followed. I think for someone who had a 4 billion audience, HRH had a befitting funeral ceremony.
RedBaron · M
@Vivaci As an American, it was interesting to watch it and compare it to American state funerals. What struck me the most is the intertwining of church and state. Unlike the secular US, the UK is at its core a Christian monarchy. I wonder how English people who are not Christian feel about that. Hard to imagine Jews, Muslims, and others not feeling somewhat relegated in status among the citizenry.
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I am still emotional about it 😔
@Justenjoyit True….The Queen earned our respect and ruled our hearts ♥️
The end when we save God Save The Queen for the last time.

I was in london for the funeral
@InOtterWords 😳😲 I saw the queue was so long…. Did you take your kids too?
@Vivaci 5 miles . I didn't queue up though, i would have done if i wasn't working
You’re so lucky you could attend though. It’s a milestone moment 💐💕@InOtterWords

moving the Queen from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. i was told this signified the last day the royal family could privately grieve the loss of Queen Elizabeth - and the royal family was turning the Queen over to the people. that was the saddest thing i heard in a very long time because of what it mean to her children and grandchildren who know they have lost her forever.
It’s sad indeed…felt like why now? 😢 The private service is being held at St Georges Chapel now….@tenente
