Did anyone else get emotional watching the funeral procession for the Queen?

I’m not a Royal watcher by any means and I’ve never met the Queen, but I was moved watching the images from today. Maybe it’s the general sense of loss, and empathizing with the family. Maybe it’s the fact that something that has been a constant throughout my life, is now gone, the end of an era, and endings are generally sad.
Or maybe it’s a reminder of my own aging and mortality. That not even the Queen lives forever.

I find it sad. I am not a Royal watcher either but she’s been a constant all my life. More importantly she’s a person. Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, all of those roles and she was the Queen.

It’s sad and I understand why people wouldn’t care but I have seen people be downright disrespectful and there is no need for that.
@iamonfire696 I agree with all of this completely

@Ghostinthemachine Thank you for best comment 💖.

No. Most of us are pretty hard hearted.

Stiff upper lip* ;)
@Degbeme giggles*

I sat there and couldn’t help feeling like the world has turned a corner
@Krysclear the same, and because the future is uncertain, it’s always a little bit scary
But we will all be alright and life will carry on
Krysclear · 31-35, F
@Ghostinthemachine I sure hope you’re right
@Krysclear I hope so too 😳
pixiekaren · 22-25, F
I really did and surprised myself.
@pixiekaren so did I

I got emotional when the double rainbow appeared in front of Buckingham Palace and all the mourners there burst into song..."God Save the Queen".

I think one woman interviewed on the news described it best. Imagine living in a deep valley surrounded by very high mountains on every side. And then one morning you wake up and the mountains are gone. The landscape of people's lives, and the backdrop to which all were accustomed, is just...gone.
@4meAndyou very poignant moment and eloquently stated
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@4meAndyou that is a very apt analogy

Very much sweetie. Not even the funeral yet and it's just...rubbish! Poor Winsors. Horrible thing for all to be going through and yet try to be ok in public.

Liz is forever our Queen.....and we give her our regards and thanks for how she presided over our country...and, of course, the commonwealth.

Charles is now king. Long live the King....and Elizabeth will live on through him...

☺️
@CassandraSissy From what Ive seen, King Charles seems to be adapting nicely to his new role

I'm a bit of an Anglophile, and I love the traditions. I admired Queen Elizabeth, and I got a little choked up when they removed her casket and carried it into Westminster.
@exexec I did as well, and seeing her little crown on the purple pillow on the coffin 😢
OldBrit · 61-69, M
Strangest of days.
The queue is already back to opposite the Tower of London.
@OldBrit apparently visitation is open 24hrs. The guards standing by the coffin must get so tired standing still for hours on end
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@Ghostinthemachine they rotate every 20 mins
@OldBrit good to know. I was about to head over and offer them a stool
KatyO83 · 36-40, F
Yes I did.
And that's not even the funeral yet.
Can't believe all this really. Weird times.
@KatyO83 at times surreal, but also a welcome reminder that sometimes we can take a pause to remember and respect, in a la often crazy, busy world
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
No. It might be the end of an era for Brits but I didn’t get emotional over it. I believe that things will change in a big way now. Have to wait and watch.
@cherokeepatti I hope not either, that's why post-funeral conversation could be interesting. Or not.
Where does coincidence factor in, or is there no such thing?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Ghostinthemachine I don’t think it’s a coincidence the ways those cards have played out so far.
@cherokeepatti as you said, we shall see....
I think it increases that feeling of standing on shifting sands.
@Mamapolo2016 very nice, and most definitely

Gotta avoid the quicksand
SW-User
this meme sums it up well
@SW-User who's "we"?
SW-User
@Ghostinthemachine Spongebob and friends
@SW-User I wouldn't expect them to, living under the sea and all
pdockal · 56-60, M
Didn't watch
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Ghostinthemachine
Why would i watch them ?
@pdockal I dunno, catch a bit of history, the spectacle...
pdockal · 56-60, M
Ceinwyn · 26-30, F
Yes I did, she’s like the country’s granny.
@Ceinwyn she is, she reminds me of mine

@jshm2 ah, nothing like a healthy dose of Scottish psychoanalysis to bring a smile to the day, is all 👦
Sure. Betty White, Mary Tyler Moore, Florence Henderson, my mom, my aunt, my brother, The queen, - you somehow get on with life, and yes, it's sad!
Who's bumping off all these old people? Has there even been any investigation? No foul play? We didn't get any cause of death, either.
@Roundandroundwego thanks for the welcome laugh 😆
bookerdana · M
I didn't watch,frankly...I didn't know much about her so I DID watch two lengthy Biographies on her life and she seemed a very good woman but I've seen enough death,tragedy and funerals in my own life to not wanna see another one...
If this makes me a heartless callous guy ,so be it
@bookerdana not at all. I don't see this as a tragedy though, she lived a long and full life, it's more a celebration, or recognition and appreciation for a life time of service
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Yes sad but we knew it was coming, very proud of our military and the sendoff she is getting plus King Charles is doing a grand job he’s not had a minute to mourn his mother in private
@Barny52 I do wonder how they carry on publicly while mourning inside. It must be so difficult, the conflict of emotions and public persona
Nothing lasts forever.

Death of a Queen, or anyone we know, will remind us of that.
@CookieCrumbs true, but I suppose parts of her remind me of my grandmothers, and losing them
@Ghostinthemachine

I know that feeling only too well.
Hugs to you. Hugs to us.
@CookieCrumbs hugs all around
Elanor · F
Yes I understand what you’re saying …I think it’s called being human

lol 🌹
@Elanor death tends to remind us of our mortality
