@FloorGenAdm who is they? What you, or i might call dumb stuff may be important to some one. There is already billions of dollars already returned to states. Unfortunately a lot of those tax payer dollars go disproportionately to all states. Many states receive more federal funds then they send when compared to others. We are already spending more on interest on federal debt that any other function.

The US national debt doubled from $20 trillion to $40 trillion over the last ten years. Remind me, who has been president for the majority of those ten years?? And who has passed massive tax cuts without spending cuts in each of his terms???

tRump's own fiscal policies led to at least $12 trillion of that $20 trillion debt growth over ten years.

However you need to calculate the debt in terms of the dollar today
Congress controls the purse
Under obama Congress was controlled by his party and the debt was still raised

legally speaking, the New Zealand Parliament can change or remove individual rights more easily than in countries like the United States

@faery I'm not sure he ran it past his legal team or whether it was a spur of the moment promise tbh, nor if he would have dropped the plan if they advised against it.

And sadly plenty of people would believe it, but only those who would have voted for him no matter what, so it won't change the election outcome indeed.

@pdockal Under US Federal law it is illegal to offer payments intended to influence the way a person is voting. If he had promised to reduce taxes that would count as a regular election promise. The unknown source or purpose of the "dividend" is what is leading many commentators to conclude that it is an illegal bribe.

@ArishMell I think the promise was that every adult gets 5k, so how any individual voted doesn't matter. It only depends on the GOP winning, not on whether you contributed to that win.
