Whether controlling oil supplies really was his object it seems only he might know. He issued assorted excuses, such as regime collapse, suggesting he did not really know what he wanted and how to achieve it.
Yes, he probably wants his war to end; but has no clear idea how, especially if he worries about making Iran and its proxies like the Houthis think they have somehow "won" something.
If anyone can be said to have won, eventually, it's likely to be whoever has lost less, rather than gained anything.

@ArishMell I agree. And his latest ploy is totry to have his 34 felony convictions reversed..They may come back to haunt him yet.. A reborn DOJ may seek to overturn the total lack of imposed sentence that the convictions carried..😷

Trump has taken this to very unhealthy levels but did the means to do already existed in part?
I know he has these curious rights of "executive order" and of pardon, but I don't know of any other democratic nation that has such things, at least not as a matter of course. President Trump did not invent them. They date from the nation's early days.
As I understand, the Executive Order is to allow the President to take rapid, important decisions forced by unexpected events, in the brief interregnum between his installation in office, and the new government and parliament forming.
A pardon though, totally overturns a sentence passed in a Court of Law that should be totally independent of government. The Court is accountable to government to the extent of ensuring it acts lawfully itself, and the government not the judiciary creates or revokes individual laws beyond case-law level; but why would a country give its leader the right to intervene in trials and sentences?

@ArishMell I could just say "Ïts complicated". But it boils down to the fact that if the US had a Parliamentary system of government, it would have been harder to co opt it, the way Trump and his MAGA Republicans have. Make no mistake, this is a well thought out, well executed plan to turn America into an Oligarchy.. And Trump is the perfect patsy. He is the disaster that the people behind him will step up to fix.. and take power doing it..😷
