Tariffs devaluate the currency of the country to a greater extent on which it is imposed. Which means it makes dollar stronger than the rest of the currencies. The purchasing power of a stronger dollar amplifies to the extent to nullify any adverse effect of tariff in an opposite direction. Now, go look around.

My exports won't be overly affected... I'll simply find new trade partners - which is exactly what the rest of the world is now doing. Meanwhile, your country is hit by rising inflation and scarcity of goods... lowering the value of your currency.

Being cut out of global trade leaves your country isolated and weakened... nobody needs you

@BohoBabe It is the conclusion of era where every nation thinks they are more or less developed. They want self sufficiency which is a break from the old pattern of interdependency. It's a new wave of self sufficiency. It's not a disconnection.
The sooner people understand the better.
The nations which will still follow globalization will spend less on weapons. It will be a fatal mistake. China has accumulated huge weapons. It's southward movement will first take down Taiwan and then Phillipines and smaller nations till Australia.

@newjaninev2 Who is saying cutout? Trump invites companies to get their office in USA from around the world. So that the transportation cost of items comes to zero or nearby. Many countries have started shifting. Chips will be manufactured in and around Arizona.
