There's nothing that says everything has to come from the federal government. Many important services are better delivered and funded locally.
Many so called crucial services are more susceptible to waste and fraud the larger they become.

@GerOttman Do you have anything to back that up?
And we tried doing things like food for the poor that way.
Read a Dickens novel or the commentary of Oscar Wilde to see what an utter failure that was.

@GerOttman Oscar Wilde was a real person.

@GerOttman But if those services are not being provided, for whatever reason, and children are going hungry, it falls to government to supply the deficiency . .
GerOttman · 61-69, M
@SunshineGirl And here is the fundamental difference in our positions. No it doesn't! Plain and simple. A society utterly dependent on handouts from a government is not where i want to live.

GerOttman · 61-69, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow never read atlas shrugged, heard of it
I do have an excellent grasp of history, lived some of it. Hence my disdain for governmental give aways.

@GerOttman Well, work on improving society and the economy so these handouts are no longer necessary. As things stand this is a moot point. And happily the safety net has not yet been removed entirely.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@GerOttman People are cornered into poverty by exploitative employers and a labour market that is rigged against their interests.
