In your opinion, is President Trump's repeal of the Equal Opportunity Employment Act a good thing?

Midlifemale · 61-69, M
Yes...hiring and promoting based on qualifications and merit..NOT because of race, religion, sexual orientation or LGBTQ acceptance.

Real life example:
I was checking in for an American Airlines flight one day at a NC airport, with my family. The agent at the counter was a middle-aged man...a stockey build...an unshaven face, wearing a dress, eye make-up, earings, lipstick, and black nail polish. It was disgusting to watch and embarrassing for my family to see. But I'm sure American Airlines hired him because they are an Equal Opportunity Employer with no discrimination policy.....so this LGBTQ person was the face of their customer service.

@Midlifemale Uniform dresses aren't that bad even on men. You made it sound like he was wearing some stripper outfit or whatever, over dramatizing things as conservatives do.

For the fact you lost sleep over it is so hysterically fragile lol

@SatanBurger just by your profile name..SATAN...I can tell you're a liberal Democrat

@Midlifemale And I can tell by what you lose sleep over that you're def. a conservative.

"President Donald Trump revoked executive order 11246, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965.

Johnson’s order required federal contractors to ensure equal opportunity for minorities in recruitment, hiring, training and other employment practices.

The social media claims referred to the 1965 “Equal Employment Opportunity Act.” There was no such law passed that year. The 1972 Equal Employment Opportunity Act remains intact."

"There is no 1965 Equal Employment Opportunity Act. An "act" refers to legislation passed by Congress — an act of Congress — and signed into law by a president. A president cannot unilaterally overturn a law with an executive order.

A president can, however, amend or withdraw another president’s executive order, which is what Trump did in this case. On Jan. 21, Trump issued an executive order titled, "Ending illegal discrimination and restoring merit-based opportunity.""

The order targeted several diversity, equity and inclusion policies that Trump’s order called "illegal," including executive order 11246, a landmark order signed Sept. 24, 1965, by then-President Lyndon B. Johnson.

"Johnson’s order prevented federal contractors from hiring discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin. Employees hired by federal contractors make up about a fifth of the U.S. workforce, the Labor Department said."

"A Labor Department webpage describing the order includes the words, "Executive Order 11246 — Equal Employment Opportunity" at the top. Some of the social media posts that incorrectly referred to it as an "act" also referred to it as an "order," and shared screenshots of Executive Order 11246.

The 1965 order required that "federal contractors over a certain dollar amount take affirmative action to hire women and ‘minorities,’" City University of New York School of Law professor Rick Rossein told PolitiFact in an email. "It sets goals and timetables, not quotas."

Rossein said some people might have confused Johnson’s 1965 order with the 1964 Civil Rights Act he signed into law that went into effect July 5, 1965. That law created the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and more widely prohibits employment discrimination because of race, color, national origin, religion and sex.

That law eventually led Congress to pass another law, the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972, that people could have confused with the order Trump revoked. That law amended the portion of the Civil Rights Act that pertained to employment discrimination, making it applicable to state and local governments, Rossein said."

The Equal Opportunity Act of 1972 remains intact.

Yes I believe eeo was Far overdone and also not only that but gave companies a reason to pass over qualified applicants and clean that they were still looking to hire therefore claiming tax credits it was a racket all the way around and needed to be done away with not to mention the fact it was lowering the standard bar

@jshm2 Technically, the EOEA was an executive order by LBJ, I thought.
@LordShadowfire Originally, yes, but.

The "Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972" is a law enacted by Congress. It amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to strengthen protections against employment discrimination. President Musk can't change the 1972 law; only Congress can.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
@ElwoodBlues Well, somebody should really tell him that. Oh, wait, they probably are and now he's crying about federal judges.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
No it is not!

I believe that everyone, regardless of age, race, gender, orientation, religious/philosophical belief system, and even ability should get an equal opportunity, regardless of where they live in this world of ours.

@jshm2 EQUALITY HATER!!!

DOUBLE STANDARD LOVER!!!
Trump is confused. A President cannot repeal an act of Congress. He would need a new act of Congress.

The "Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972" is a law enacted by Congress. It amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to strengthen protections against employment discrimination.
https://www.eeoc.gov/history/equal-employment-opportunity-act-1972

There is also a government watchdog for the equal opportunity law(s), known as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The The Civil Rights Act of 1964, specifically Title VII, is the law that established the EEOC.

Only Congress can repeal the EEO act of 1972, and only an act of Congress can disband the EEOC.

No. It's only a method of getting the wealthy more wealthy. DEI hurts the wealthy the most.

This is a move to make everyone more like slaves. If they could, they would legalize slavery and remove any constitutional rights.

Meritocracy is a fancy word for a excuse of such behavior.

People want to do things naturally. That could never stop. If anything , they would start their own businesses, making the wealthy less wealthy.

The wealthy really don't want to do anything, but increase their own wealth.

All these executive orders are only to set the stage for Congress to repeal laws on the books that are not in the constitution.

He is showing what he wants of the REPUBLICAN House and Senate. Since he can't undo or change those laws himself.
AbbeyRhode · F
Absolutely! Hiring based on merit alone is the only sane and sensible way to go.
trash · 31-35, M
yes. meritocracy ftw

the way i see it: if you're good at your job, you have nothing to worry about. when your mother goes to the doctors, wouldn't you want her to be seen by the most competent person? et cetera

Trump is dismantling the US federal government. There were a lot of issues with how the federal government was operating. There was and continues to be a lot of issues with how Trump is operating too. The US public voted for a virus to kill the tumor
meJess · F
Depends if the equal opportunities act was creating unintentional inequalities
FeetAreFantastic · 41-45, M
No of course not!
Pfuzylogic · M
This has to be a facetious question.
Who in the world asked a question like this…someone born before 1964?
Yes because it wasn't equal it was reverse racism and diversifying based on races not merit .. it was basically discrimination against white people
Neoerectus · M
EO's can NOT repeal statutes.
No repeal of equal opportunities is a good thing, except to racists, xénophobes, homophobes and misogynists.
