Should Trump be celebrating his legal win in Colorado?

On Friday a Colorado judge rejected an effort to keep Trump off the state's primary ballot. The judge concluded that Trump had engaged in insurrection during the Jan. 6th attack on the Capitol. But that it was unclear whether a Civil War-era constitutional amendment barring insurrectionists from public office applied to the presidency. I think it is a - he may of won the battle but he lost the war type of victory. I think the judges ruling will reflect on the case that Jack Smith has going. So Trump will be on the Colorado ballot but if he wins the election he will be serving his term in prison for engaging in a insurrection/treason. Cheers!

No. Basicallr the ruling was “you are an insurrectionist, but I din’t think I have the legal authority to keep you off the ballot.” Exactly the ruling I expected. The amendment is pretty non-specific.

The courts said they believed he was responsible for an insurrection. It was the language in the Constitution that had the gray area. And I think the reason is a lack of expectation that certain things would ever take place.

I read it as very bad news for him. It's not hard to see it getting to the SC and when it does are they seriously going to rule that it doesn't apply to the President himself ?

[nanoose] 🤔sorry as an non american i am rather baffled by this judge if trump has lost in court on othe states for the exact crime and scratched from the said ballet papers . then you come to colorado and a judge who should be savvy on the law of his country questions the legality of other states actions against trump on the grounds it an old law from the days of the american civil war

Yeah, he should celebrate with several drinks, maybe a couple of lines of cocaine, maybe some heroin, possibly a little bit of crystal meth... whatever it takes to end his not even really checkered career.
