should fat people pay more taxes?

because they stress out the healthcare system and increase costs for everyone. smokers and alcohol drinkers pay heavy taxes when they buy tobacco and alcoholic drinks and have aggravated insurances. so should fat people pay extra taxes?

Not in a socialised healthcare system. The costs need to be borne collectively. If you start charging on the basis of consumption, you will soon notice that the over 70s use around four fifths of resources. Clearly you cannot charge the unwaged a higher tax rate or the whole system would collapse.

@SunshineGirl then tobacco and alcohol should not have extra taxes like they do?

@dpoet You can tax the consumption of those products - and the proceeds can be directed to hospitals, education, etc - but smokers and drinkers should pay no more than anyone else for access to the healthcare system. Most of them are probably already priced out of private insurance.

@SunshineGirl so there should be an unhealthy food tax?
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@dpoet Yes. Tax unhealthy habits, not unhealthy people.
@dpoet There is already an "unhealthy sugary drinks" tax in Scotland
