The IRS is purchasing large amounts of ammo and weapons, prior to the massive 87,000 employee increase.

I have never in my life heard of an IRS agent needing to be armed. Don't they just sit in their offices and make phone calls?

I have had IRS show up for site visits during an audit. Why shouldn't they be armed for their protection?
@CopperCicada As an IRS doing a routine audit, why would they need a gun?
Now, I’d think if your superiors feel/ felt you’d be in harm’s way, going into a hostile, potentially life threatening situation wouldn’t they liaison with local law enforcement first? Or at best dispatch their SWAT Personnnel?
@soar2newhighs My point is if people are going to make the argument that Bob should be able to carry a semi with extended magazine when he buys paint at Home Depot...

... why shouldn't Bob be able to carry the same to a job site he's auditing because the tax filings are clearly bullshit.
@CopperCicada If Bob is a federal employee his agency covers the carrying of firearms in the performance of his official duties. Now as I said, in your words, “…tax filings are clearly bullshit.”, then again I believe if either he’s allowed to be armed then he takes a risk, where if he’s not and problems are expected then coordinate w/ local LE first or use the IRS SWAT personnel.
@soar2newhighs Sorry for being sarcastic. Be well.
@CopperCicada No problem.
