I am a socialist. [I Am Socialist]

I believe that conservatism is caused by a lack of empathy. As a species its our primal instinct to look after #1 but we've evidently moved past a state of fighting for survival and we easily have the means to provide and look after all people.

The U.S. provides it's citizens the opportunity for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
That is all it owes anyone is the means to survive.
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Machete we are wasting our time
Machete · 56-60, M
@pdockal Actually isn't that what we are doing on S.W. anyway?? LOL
She made another post that she is being bombarded by angry white guys and is contemplating leaving S.W.. LOL
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Machete got there before you did
Yes but this isn't fun
Giving the government too much power has historically caused a lot of issues and death.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@LJTEFMxGrace Good for them. The cold will do that anyway. What choice did they have?

Btw...my city Boston did too

LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley so when you say "what choice did they have" you mean to say that there was a moral obligation to help people? But shouldn't they just help themselves?
TexChik · F
Pfft ... get a job and don’t expect any free shit ! Conservatism is based on responsibility . Socialism destroys civilizations .
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@TexChik 75% of all infrastructure and public services are privately owned, how is that socialism. And why would I leave Australia to move to South America?
TexChik · F
@LJTEFMxGrace you wanted socialism . That’s what it gets you .., or Greece .., completely bankrupt and living on loans . Enjoy . Capitalism funds the world .
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@TexChik Greece isn't socialist but, Scandinavia? heard of it?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Good luck with that
Carver · 31-35, F
To be fair, conservatism does have its good qualities. Mainly when it comes to preserving important values. But you have a good point on the lack of empathy part. That’s why a lot of conservatives are assholes that are never too bright.

As for socialism, it’s been proven that certain types of socialism can work very well. Conservatives like to list Russia and Venezuela as examples of why socialism doesn’t work, but they always conveniently overlook the numerous examples of thriving socialist economies. I’m not going to say I’m totally for socialism, just that I can empathize.
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley socialism involves capitalism you gronk
Carver · 31-35, F
@HoraceGreenley That’s incorrect, but believe what you will.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Carver I agree to disagree
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley wow its almost like getting an education informs people about the injustices of the world huh..
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@LJTEFMxGrace The world is more than injustice

I think that you make noble statements, and I understand what you say.
I think that the idea of socialism is a splendid one in a perfect world, which sadly this is not.
Unfortunately the human race is inherently greedy, hence what we’re doing to our beautiful planet (socialist or otherwise). Also, history has shown that socialism doesn’t really work that well - the mantra “Everyone should be equal, but I’m in charge” kind of contradicts the ideal really.
Having said all that, the extreme capitalism of many western countries makes me feel very pessimistic about the future of the human race and life in general.
Perhaps a mixture of both is the way to go?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@LJTEFMxGrace Are you aware that Nazis were socialists and you want to bring in socialism. Hmmmm So please give me an example of successful socialism and no I am not talking about a welfare state in a capitalist country.
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 Finland
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@LJTEFMxGrace Finland is a capitalist state with a large welfare state. You do need to learn the difference. BTW did you hear that Finland is starting to trim its welfare state? It can't afford its generous benefits.
Lapochka · 31-35, F
It won’t work. It will feel right for a time but it won’t work.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Lapochka Bingo. Well said
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@Lapochka Finland is literally a socialist republic mate
Lapochka · 31-35, F
@LJTEFMxGrace That’s your opinion, not a fact. Finland is a parliamentary republic with a current centrist majority with a narrow lead over a Conservative party. The left haven’t got a significant foothold.

As I told you before their policy is progressive not socialist.

@PainfulTruth no sweetie I'm not ordering you to do anything. I just need help seeing your point of view on these issues. The best way to do this is with facts and statisics.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Let me guess you have never lived in a socialist state. You naivete is astounding.
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@hippyjoe1955 lived in Finland for three years baby boy, now living in Victoria.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@LJTEFMxGrace So you have never lived in a truly socialist country. You have lived in a capitalist country with a large welfare state. You do need a better education.

@waleskinder This makes no argument. You could replace 'socialism' with 'evolution' and you still wouldn't be making a point.
