I am a socialist. [I Am Socialist]

I believe that conservatism is caused by a lack of empathy. As a species its our primal instinct to look after #1 but we've evidently moved past a state of fighting for survival and we easily have the means to provide and look after all people.

To be fair, conservatism does have its good qualities. Mainly when it comes to preserving important values. But you have a good point on the lack of empathy part. That’s why a lot of conservatives are assholes that are never too bright.

As for socialism, it’s been proven that certain types of socialism can work very well. Conservatives like to list Russia and Venezuela as examples of why socialism doesn’t work, but they always conveniently overlook the numerous examples of thriving socialist economies. I’m not going to say I’m totally for socialism, just that I can empathize.

@Carver And what are these important values that only conservatism can provide?

I appreciate your balanced response. In regards to the Venezuela mantra of many Americans, 75% of their country's infrastructure and public services are privately owned, this is not socialism.

@LJTEFMxGrace No, of course not. But when the right are the ones trying to protect things like free speech more than the left are, you have to give credit where it’s due.

@Carver What examples are there of thriving socialist economies?

Don't say western European countries because they are actually capitalist.
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@Carver the US right wing condemn athletes for kneeling during their national anthem or vocalising their support for the BLM movement, how is this upholding free speech?
Carver · 31-35, F
@HoraceGreenley They’re socialist economies that have aspects of capitalism, but it’s still a form of socialism.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Carver Actually they are capitalist economies with elements of Socialism
Carver · 31-35, F
@LJTEFMxGrace But they’re not actively trying to prevent them from doing it.
Machete · 56-60, M
@LJTEFMxGrace Yup!! The people condemn them but aren't making them stop. That is freedom.
LJTEFMxGrace · 26-30, F
@HoraceGreenley socialism involves capitalism you gronk
Carver · 31-35, F
@HoraceGreenley That’s incorrect, but believe what you will.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
@Carver I agree to disagree
