Much of the crime in chicago goes unreported. Its a cultural thing not to trust WHITEY
Roundandroundwego · 61-69
@Patriot96 but violence is down. Do y'all have a reason to be clinging to it?
GuidanceCounselor · 56-60, M
@Roundandroundwego he just stated it goes unreported.
Charity · 61-69
Reports say it is the media coverage, even though it is reported that violent crimes are decreasing, people perceive violent crimes increasing.
Well in the city in which I live when you listen to the news **each day** there is generally a murder or two / shootings three or four and some shootings containing multiple people. And I wonder how can it be down. Maybe their research and statistics are not Nationwide but done in suburban towns in Utah or Vermont or even Connecticut.
The Bible indicates iniquity will be abound abundance and the love of many will go cold, Matthew 24:12 2nd Timothy 3:1-6 give us a bit more detail that lawlessness will continue to increase as we get closer to the end of days.

@22Michelle The bible gets a bad rap. An eye for an eye is biblical, but a move toward civil civilization when you realize the standard at the time was a life for an eye. Turning the other cheek and loving one's enemies is a high standard even today. You will not see this in Islam, where they will befriend rainbow people for local protests knowing they will join their traditions of throwing them off tall buildings once they achieve their goals.

According to most statistics, crime rates are down over-all. BUT 24-hour news, social media, etc., means we are more aware of anything that happens much more than in the past. Plus a (for example) 5% crime rate when the population was 100,000,000 is 1/3 the actual number of crimes for a population of 300,000,000 -- and our population keeps rising, so the actual number of crimes increases even if the rate stays the same or drops.
GerOttman · 70-79, M
@ChipmunkErnie I think that raises an interesting point. Percentage don't tell the whole story. If 30 thousand people were harmed and you have a 33 percent reduction, that still leaves a fairly large number. To have a valid concern about being included in that statistic is not unreasonable to way of thinking.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@GerOttman But it also means things have gotten better for that 33% who would have been harmed BEFORE the decrease. The perceived increase in crime is what drives politics, it seems. As with the putting of the National Guard into the NY subway system -- even the governor who sent them in admitted that there was no actual crime problem in the subways, that it was all for the perception in the media and public eye.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Right wing populists are using recent incidents to imply that knife crime in the UK is rising and out of control. Police statistics show that violent knife crime in the year to March 2025 was 5% lower than the previous year and 25% lower than 5 years ago.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@GerOttman You can ask questions, but I suspect you are not interested in the answers. You are using Nigel Farage's tactic of asking vague, open ended questions in the hope of sowing social unease and reinforcing blind prejudice. I am interested in establishing objective truth. Of course not everything that government says must be accepted uncritically. But based on objective evidence, the current UK administration is a far more credible source than Farage Plc.
GerOttman · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl I don’t know who that is but I don't trust the government when they tell me what I want to hear. I also place little trust in those who blindly accept the "truth" of the day. Funny how whenever something bad happens there's always a statistic to show everything is fine. Well except for the poor unfortunate victim of the day.
helenS · 36-40, F
The alleged "increase of violence" is almost always only a perceived increase. It's what the people are told, to intimidate them, and to make them want a Big Brother to protect them.
It's one of those lies which are spread to prepare people for authoritarian leadership.

@samueltyler2 There is definately less civility online and political civility. That may not translate to violent crime.

@JimboSaturn it hasn't so far, the annual FBI statistics always lagging behind but :
https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/fbi-data-confirms-drop-most-crimes-2023-especially-murders
U.S. crime rate per 100K population for 2021 was 6.81, a 6.02% increase from 2020.
U.S. crime rate per 100K population for 2020 was 6.42, a 28.78% increase from 2019.
U.S. crime rate per 100K population for 2019 was 4.99, a 1.14% increase from 2018.
U.S. crime rate per 100K population for 2018 was 4.93, a 5.99% decline from 2017.
Intentional homicides are estimates of unlawful homicides purposely inflicted as a result of domestic disputes, interpersonal violence, violent conflicts over land resources, intergang violence over turf or control, and predatory violence and killing by armed groups. Intentional homicide does not include all intentional killing; the difference is usually in the organization of the killing. Individuals or small groups usually commit homicide, whereas killing in armed conflict is usually committed by fairly cohesive groups of up to several hundred members and is thus usually excluded. Violence is probably decreasing, throughout society. The commitment to war and hate, the commitment to reject socialism is what you really mean when you lie about people and decry their violence. You're saying that you're an American, blue and red together against peace! You are everyone here!!!
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
In 2024, the FBI reported a 4.5% decrease in violent crime nationwide, with a violent crime occurring on average every 26 seconds. The national violent crime rate was 359.1 per 100,000 residents, which is the lowest in roughly two decades.
RosaMarie · 46-50, F
Someone else mentioned it, but the myth of increasing violence is being used to justify a federal presence in cities where people disagree with the government.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@RosaMarie I think what is happening in the US under Trump is disgusting. Sending armed forces into cities using crime or antisemitism as excuses is an abomination. that is far different from what I am speaking of. BTW, blame it on whatever you want, minor crimes, shoplifting for example, seem to have increased.
anythingoes477 · 31-35, M
If the evidence is SHOWN...........its happening. That said MAGA searches the entire United States news sources to pick and choose the things they want to show to increase the hate and division around us,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and their base eats it up.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@GerOttman They use it to inflame the fearful to support them.

Violent crime, after spiking up during Covid, is actually falling. X/twitter has revealed that many of the MAGA voices spreading claims of increased violence originate overseas in Russia, Eastern Europe, Thailand and Nigeria. These folks have developed loyal MAGA followings while spreading lies.

A little of both. Throw in a growing population and an unchecked globalist agenda...and violence is everywhere.
