Executions being live streamed? Ghoulish as hell.

MAGA is so morally bankrupt

I'm surprised it's not being shown on C-Span, Fox, Newsmax, ABC, etc.

Nidal Hasan, the Fort Hood shooter whose execution by firing squad was approved by Donald Trump, is currently in a wheelchair.
Hasan was paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by civilian police officers during his 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. His defense attorney confirmed that the bullet wounds to his spine left him unable to walk, and he has used a wheelchair since the incident.

I think the optics of shooting someone in a wheelchair may not be the great event that Trump's Ghouls think it will be..... maybe I'm wrong.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@JSul3 It may be a "great event" to the types who revel in things like ISIS' own atrocity videos.

I did not know the shooter is now confined to a wheelchair. If anything that makes Hegseth's publicity order even more repulsive.

Hopefully no-one will video the execution, if it takes place; but if they do, hopefully all the normal TV and social-media channels and Internet service-providers, even those usually pro-Trump, will block it.
ididntknow · 56-60, M
He’s a Muslim, that won’t start any trouble, will it 🧐 ?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Now, how is the rest of the world - friends, foes and non-aligned alike - going to regard that?

Executions were public entertainment for centuries in many countries until the late-19C; and still are in a few, and by brigands like ISIS. That a nation like the United States of America would even think of reviving such "entertainment", and in a very gory form at that, is horrifying.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@ArishMell I'm out here in 'the rest of the world' and I can tell you that I and those in my social circle are nauseated and disgusted by this repugnant suggestion.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@newjaninev2 Exactly!
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
What used to be the party of small governement and states-rights... is now the party of big governement and federal overreach. I also love all those "libertarian" characters that are still in the MAGA-camp, that believe governement should be distrusted and isn't able to do annything right, are now giving the power to governement to kill people and broadcast it on TV.

Quo vadis USA? 🤔
tenente · 36-40, M
"Can we have healthcare?"

"No can do but live-stream executions is a go 👍" - MAGA
tenente · 36-40, M
@gmgun 😂
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@gmgun
but it definitely beats the current alternatives.

I wonder how long you thought about this subject... and what the data is, that you compare it too.

Same goes for that other bold statement:

The best deterrence is showing a consequence.

... where is the evidence for that one?
@gmgun says
Do you want healthcare like Canada? Sit and wait for years? Sure we don’t have an ideal system, but it definitely beats the current alternatives.
DEAD WRONG!!!
And the proof is that every other developed nation enjoys both longer life expectancies and lower costs than we have in the US.

Life expectancy & cost (not including infant mortality); note the graph goes 1970-2018.

Infant mortality in 2020; I include this to show that the life expectancies graphed above aren't distorted by infant mortality data.

@jshm2 If he survives several close-range rifle rounds blasting his chest apart, God knows in what state he would be, already paralysed by a Police bullet.
I wonder if a legal case could be made that public execution in any form amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.

bring lions and gladiators with Netflix streaming 😁
Evillynn · 41-45, F
The mental health industry is about to get a hell of a lot busier. Watching someone die is not fun, no matter the situation.
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
It feels like a prequel to the “Purge” movies
CuriousWonder · 61-69, M
Yes that's horrifying.
Uncfred · 70-79, M
What IS happening to the world, the CIVILISED world!

Surely there are enough normal human beings to do something about it, or has he managed to take control of humanity?

As a normal human, can you see any sense in it.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Uncfred It's settled. No livestream.
Uncfred · 70-79, M
@FreddieUK Thanks Freddie, but someone will be on the make from of it.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
It's yet another symptom of a sick regime.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
No problem - that weak, frightened, old man has gone TACO (as always)
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
Are the Palestinians also morally bankrupt ? Or any group that does public executions? Or is it only the Orange one ?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt OK. I suspect we really are not disagreeing much in our attitudes.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@AthrillatheHunt Yes, there is a Palestinian authority recognised internationally, but it has no power over Hamas and Hamas' backers. It is no laughing matter, either.
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@ArishMell PA rules west bank not Gaza bro. This is 20 year old news bro

During the times of the Wild American West, public executions were commonplace across America, most typically public lynchings of criminals.

Americans would show up with the whole family in the town square to witness such events and then they'd all go about their business after it was over.

Call it "ghoulish as hell" if you will, but to many Americans at the time, public lynchings were widely regarded as a form of weekly entertainment for the whole family to enjoy, both young and old.

My own grandmother from Sweden who was visiting Paris France while on vacation with her girlfriend in 1978, just happened to arrive in the town square about 30 minutes before the very last public execution was held in France, in which case the French guillotine was used for the last time ever.

Like all the French townspeople who purposely showed up, along with tourists who stumbled upon the advertised event, my grandmother and her friend encircled the guillotine just alike everyone else was doing as the authorities led the convicted one kicking and screaming from his jail cell to the awaiting guillotine positioned in a public viewing area adjacent to the jail.

Every spectator there was either a French National who just came to watch, or was a tourist like my young grandmother and friend were. She captured the entire event on her Cannon CamCorder and brought it back to Sweden with her as a souvenir of her Paris vacation that year.

Though I'd like to think that we have advanced a little bit more in our evolution of the human Race than we're talking about, keep in mind that this 'live-streaming' event is being held in the USA which still burns COAL as an industrial energy source. Would that alone not tell you how little the USA has advanced in it's own evolution in the last 200 years?

@swirlie I don't know if we can call it evolution , but it looks better being eaten by Lion if it was me . : Condemned prisoners were thrown into the arena to be mauled or eaten by wild animals like lions, bears, and leopards.Damnatio ad Bestias 😁Beheading (Decapitatio): Considered a swifter and more "honorable" method, generally reserved for Roman citizens of higher social status.The Spectacle: Executions were structured as a morning "warm-up" before main events like gladiator fights, turning state violence into a community-wide ritual.Impalement: For severe crimes against the state or sacred property, such as grave robbing or temple theft, the condemned were impaled on a sharp wooden stake in a public area. This was heavily documented in legal texts like the New Kingdom's Abbott Papyrus. Burning Alive: Reserved for heinous betrayals, premeditated murder, and sacrilege. Fire was used not just to cause physical pain, but to entirely consume the body, which carried an ultimate spiritual penalty.Drowning or Feeding to Crocodiles: Associated with crimes that disrupted cosmic balance. Drowning in the Nile was seen as a way to hand the criminal directly over to the judgment of the gods. Denial of Burial: Bodies of executed criminals were often burned to ashes, thrown into the river, or left to be eaten by scavengers. Without a proper mummified burial or tomb, the soul (Ka and Ba) was condemned to cease existing entirely, which Egyptians feared far more than physical death.

@Khenpal1
I called it America's "evolution", which is a term I use very loosely when making reference to the USA as a country and the American culture as a people.

I find your researched information on condemned prisoners to be fascinating to read! It makes the occasional video-taped viewing of what my grandmother had personally witnessed 'live' as a young woman, look like a Saturday matinee at the Roxy Theater in comparison!
gmgun · 36-40, M
Why? The best deterrence is showing a consequence. That man deserves so much worse. If it didn’t cost taxpayers, I’d say let him rot in prison.
available4 · 70-79, M
@gmgun depends on state and crime, from $150,000.000 up, mass, $280.000.000 better dead, save lots of money that can help people, just my opinion
Elessar · 31-35, M
@gmgun here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Crimes_and_Punishments

They had this figured out in 1764, imagine.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@gmgun we used to have public executions on the regular, people would bring picnic baskets. Guess what? We still had criminals. That never stopped no bank or train robbers.

There's no such thing as deterrence. There's prevention things you can do to lower crime rates but we are focused on retribution rather than prevention that it is impossible to talk about
