Canada already gave banks the emergency authorization to shut down striking truck drivers bank account access over Covid protests in 2022. Protests over restrictions later proven to not be correctly based in science, vaccines shown to be incapable of claims supporting their mandates, etc.

There is no reason to design the capability into such systems aside from the clear intent to utilize it.

@SunshineGirl What debate is there to be had? The minor things you describe will be part of it .. so, eventually, will the things I describe. Once the power to do so is in place, events occur that trigger the govt and they'll decide they want to shut down opposition, punish some people.

What you describe basically exists, just not centrally coordinated / controlled. Add that central coordination and ability to control .. and as Canada has shown so quickly into their ability to do so .. the option to control will be utilized. There are leftists on SW now advocating violence against conservatives to punish them for having voted for Trump. If in power, you think like minded people would not weaponize that control? Wake up to the world around you . if they will kill Charlie Kirk, attempt to kill Trump they would absolutely justify this.

It will be rationalized as being done for the "greater good" .. like all the covid mandates. It is within the darker side of human nature to use such control against other humans. Ever studied history? Its rife w proof.

@BrandNewMan So the Covid-19 vaccines - two out of three of which were authorised for mass use by the first Trump administration - are estimated to have prevented 3.2m additional deaths and 12.9m additional hospitalisations in the first two years. If Trump had not been pussyfooting around for most of 2020, more lives would have been saved. That is the public good done by mass vaccination. The bad? Has this programme resulted in an increased capacity by federal government to control the people? Well, althoughTrump has an unhealthy appetite for silencing opposition and sacking public servants without just cause, I am not sure you can attribute this to Covid-19.

@SunshineGirl But they did NOT prevent the vaccinated person from contracting the virus, or transmitting it to others. My comments are around the policies of Biden's administration to fire people, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, police and US service men /women etc who refused the vaccines, while using those specific claims of prevention of transmission as the rationale.

Silencing opposition ?? Sounds more like shooting Charlie Kirk and plotting several times to kill Trump, getting social media to censure content disagreeable to liberal positions, assessing unheard of civil penalties on a political candidate in an attempt to cripple his ability to campaign. All the left's actions. You have no grounds to be throwing that stone.
