Here's the news: It's already happening. If you use the internet, Oyster, contactless/phone payments, most search engines and a lot of other digital 'stuff' many commercial firms know more about you than your mother ever did, the government can find out whatever they want to if you end up in court for some reason (look at what is dragged up when a terrorist goes through the courts). Still, why not create a bit more anxiety in life? It seems to be what these kinds of people do.

But a democratic government proposes sharing that same information in a limited and defined way between departments to improve law enforcement or health outcomes and suddenly this is sinister 🤷♀
