If I have to shown an I.D. For the mundane things in life, I have NO PROBLEM HAVING TO SHOW A VOTER I.D,
It is a privilege for me to vote.
@Vin53 Lol .. "Wantonly stated"? Can you be any more overly dramatic?

If paying by check .. you do usually need ID. Even giving he's wrong .. WTF does it matter? ID is needed for dozens of everyday reasons.
What are getting out of trying to deny that?

Do you really think Biden/ Harris/Walz shop themselves? Get real. Talk about something that matters or I'll delete your comments.

@Vin53 Again .. what does it matter?

I have to show ID to visit someone in the hospital. I have NO problem showing it to vote.

When my 6 month old phone battery died, I had to buy a new phone, and I had to pull out my ID THREE times during that purchase.

MOST people have to pull out an ID to buy booze and pot and gummies.

The ID issue is political anger that illegal immigrants will need a FAKE ID in order to vote, and my understand is that Musk has found about 3000 of them who DID.

ID is required to drive, buy liquor, to get a passport, to buy tobacco products if you look under age, rent an apartment or buy a home. Also to open a bank account, or rent a safety deposit box. No reason not to have a valid ID to vote.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan Exactly
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@nudistsueaz You had to provide ID AND proof of residence to register to vote. Once registered, why the additional hassle at the ballot box -- and the implied necessity of going to the polling site TO vote, which is the true barrier trying to be erected; particularly when it is accompanied with reduction of polling sites and repealing voting by mail ? We have enough of a problem getting eligible voters to engage and vote. Why put up additional barriers, other than to restrict voting to the more fortunate?
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@dancingtongue It's not a hassle. It is there to prove you are who you say you are. It's there to insure no one else is using your identity to vote. It's called confirmation, that's all. We use mail in ballots, easy.
Except if you look at any of the laws propose they arbitrarily refuse I'd held by younger voters like student ID or that poor people don't typically have like passports or driver's licenses. Or have idiotic requirements that the driver's licence be current.

This is why the GOP would never support a free age of majority card for everyone.
@BrandNewMan You are right. But the GOP wants very specific photo ID they know many voters that happen to vote Democrat don't have. Don't insult everyone by pretending that is a coincidence since lower voter turnout benefits your camp.

And you still ignore the fact that voter fraud basically doesn't exist. And it is just a cover for vote suppression.

And if an ID costs even 1 penny that is a poll tax.
DealingWithTrouble · 41-45, M
@BrandNewMan you were just wrong. Official government ID is not mandatory for a person to vote in Canada.

And since you agree Canada's system is secure, that completely debunks the excuses for "voter ID requirements" that are actually being put into place in the US.
@DealingWithTrouble Wait till they hear we allow convicts to vote. Their brains will melt.
But dontcha see? If all the illegal aliens had to present an ID, they would be deported. Look at all the Democrat votes that will be lost. Also dead people can't show ID. How could they vote Democrat? And then there is the 'other' disenfranchised group of Democrat victims. If those people had an ID, they would have to show it to the cops every night.

@ChipmunkErnie But then nothing at the polls
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@BrandNewMan Driver's license, signature, whatever. Or, better yet, a voter card that you'd get when you first register.
Talk about racism...democrats are on record saying getting a photo ID is too complicated for minorities.

I dare anyone to show me a minority who doesn't have a photo ID.

I think a standard driver's license should be enough, not some Federally sanctioned ID. Or maybe a simple "voter ID card" that you get when you first register to vote?
Need the ID to register to vote .. some suitable option to driver's license needed, I am not hung up on a federal vs state ID if same requirements for proof of Identity as driver's license are used
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@BrandNewMan Yes, ID to REGISTER but once registered you shouldn't need to keep bringing in multiple IDs, different types of IDs, etc.
@ChipmunkErnie At least the voter registration card .. which is not the current standard. We leave it too open to potential for fraud, whether or not widely an issue, reasonable safeguards make sense.
Vin53 · M
What is the end game of an illegal alien stealing one person's vote? They would have to know the persons address and name, show up at the correct ballot site, be certain the person hasn't already voted, either in person or by mail, risk being arrested and/or deported, and for what? To affect the entire election by one singular vote?

Wonder if I can get a bank loan without ID.. 🤔

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout

Pretzel · 70-79, M
try opening a bank account without it
or applying for social security
or getting a driver's license
@Pretzel Passport .. or public aid .. which most of those in low income groups the left claims this would affect are on, in some form

This makes too much sense for the Liberal mind to process. This is why they are not commenting.

They just say it's racist, because that is all they got.
@DogMan And for more than just this. To be fair, the mire stringent proposals of the right could be softened a bit and be vastly better than the wide open current situation.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@BrandNewMan Possibly, but some might not understand it then.
