Anyone following the Suella Braverman sacking from the Sunak government in the UK ?

She was officially fired this morning and after a brief spit at waiting reporters, said she had more to say on the issue and would issue a 'resignation statement' in the Commons later today.

The following is her response to being fired and was published online a few hours ago.

Her resignation letter might as well have begun with:

"Dear Conservative Party member 2024, I am your leadership candidate."

She even said that Rishi "Does not have the leadership that this country needs." Nudge nudge, wink wink.

She clearly wanted to be fired. Nobody would go against their PM so much as she has done if they intended otherwise. Everything she has done has been to set herself up to be Tory party leader after an expected election defeat next year. She gets to avoid responsibility for that presumed defeat and present herself as an 'authentic' hard-right outsider to her base.
@Burnley123 That is interesting. I don't follow UK politics quite as in depth but the biggest difference I saw between Sunak and Braverman was that Rishi understands optics.

From what I have read about it seemed like he just got tired of putting out her fires.

If she is trying to get the PM job by moving to the fringe right of even the Tories I wish her luck that she doesn't end up the female version of Maxime Bernier.

@SunshineGirl yes apparently its ok for her to say anything, not tow party line but its RS that's lied and been disloyal

@Burnley123 I can't argue with that!

These have been the last few Home Secretaries

Suella Braverman 2022 to 2023.
Grant Shapps 2022 to 2022.
Suella Braverman 2022 to 2022.
Priti Patel 2019 to 2022
Sajid Javid 2018 to 2019.
Amber Rudd. 2016 to 2018.
Theresa May 2010 to 2016.

it basically shows how bad the Tories have been and also how inept these people are in the job

its good she's gone now as she'd been going on and attacking anyone to try and look good and show she could be leader

as for saying she helped get RS in as PM that's just compellty disillusional

I have a feeling she knew that the Rwanda policy won't go through so she's been trying to get sacked so she doesn't take the blame for it failing ....... again

@milkymum1 There have been 16 Housing Ministers in the same time . . and it really shows in weak housing policy and failure to meet modest construction targets.
So I found the resignation letter online because I was curious to see what the fuss is about.

I am Canadian so basing this from an outside perspective. But it seriously looks like she just copy/pasted the bit about being asked to resign onto the top of a campaign speech.

Don't know how out of the norm that is in British politics.

Reminds me of Pierre Polievre who takes literally any random opportunity in Parliament to make speeches and campaign promises.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow she's been saying some really nasty things over the last few months even going at the homeless

the problem for the last few years the tory part y is divided the centre left and then the right of the party

the right of the party are basically like the BNP or a nationalist party that don't care about anything or anyone as long as they get what they want done

here letter was damming but misses out all her outrageous behaviour, not towing party line, stiring up hatred

she wants to be leader of the tories but like the last few they've had they aren't leaders
@milkymum1 Oh I am aware of the stuff she has said and some of her views. Frankly Rishi Sunak's political positions on many things are not much better but he seems to understand that optics matter.

I originally thought this was all it was. That he was tired of dealing with her being a walking PR nightmare.
Seems like both the US and the UK, may be in the hands of Nut jobs.
Irrespective of political parties

All I know about her is that she seems to be the UK equivalent of Lauren Boebart or Marjorie Taylor Greene. Just looking to incite and destroy in an attempt to raise their personal profiles.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Ynotisay She is that but a little more ambitious, knowing and capable.

@Burnley123 And those are the ones that can be the most dangerous.

Yes. Even amongst the vast array of shits that have come and gone amongst this shitty lot in the past thirteen years or however long they've been around she's a particularly stinky piece in my opinion.
they moved the muslim sunak in.. unelected. then he starts to purge conservatives..

welcome to Londonstan...

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Numbskull!

Sunak is a Hindu.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
A supposedly 'bright' girl totally clueless as to how the world, let alone the country's law works.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 But she's 'expecting' support.....but doesn't indicate WHY anyone SHOULD.
How can somebody in one of the 'Great offices of state' NOT know how to go about things the right way ??
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Picklebobble2 You assume Tory party members want someone with integrity to be a great officer of state. They wanted Liz Truss and Boris Johnson.

She's not pandering what you and I think.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Burnley123 So that's Patel and Braverman identified....starting to sound like 'The Cambridge spy ring'.
HotPizza71 · 51-55, M
She definitely didn't leave quietly..Betting she'll run for the next leadership race
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@HotPizza71 On what policy ?.........Deporting asylum seekers to other hell-holes just to teach them a lesson for daring to try and sneak into Britain ?

Originally i thought she was just sabre rattling for the hard right. But it sounds more and more like Nadine "Where'smyDamehood Dorries" rant the more you read it

@jshm2 🙄
@Burnley123 I mean they are pretty crass about it but they do have a bit of a point. There is definitely a strain within immigrant communities of taking assimilation to the extreme and coming out the other side a far right reactionary.
