Are you (specifically American's) ready to get on with the getting on?

Okay, midterms are over and we've been locked in stupidity and divisness far too long. Are you ready to urge our elected members of Congress to sit down and work across the isles so we can actually get some things done?
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
Democrats have been trying to work across the aisle for decades now. They have spent their time in power starting from compromising positions and compromising further beyond that in efforts to work across the aisle.

Honestly, it's time for democrats to make Republicans do the compromising, and drag their names through the mud when they fail to exercise reason.

It may be divisive, but I'm sick and tired of right wing economic policy coming out of both parties and there is no compromise on the social issues.
@scrood So what issues would you be willing to compromise on?
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@ViciDraco You can say that about any group... every interest group has extremist people who have no interest in compromise, anyone else's point of view, or reaching a consensus. Those people belong on the sidelines. If those minority of people are the ones you are talking closing interaction with (like the poster you mentioned above) then yes, that makes sense because no productive outcome can be achieved with them... ever.

But, cutting out people who genuinely don't understand why "black lives matter" when white lives also matter don't get the dignity of an explanation of what that slogan means and why it became an organization, we are doing a disservice to the change you claim to want. Not everyone "gets it," whether it's climate change remediation, LBGTQ rights, women's rights, etc. Not "getting it" on your time schedule is not and should not be a crime. It should be a surprise that it's not so easy to immediately understand why a male is dressed like a woman. To suggest that there should be no moments of confusion is being really disingenuous and politically-correct in dangerous ways. Certainly, someone dressing that way should not be cruelly treated, but to have an expectation only people who immediately accept it as nothing out of the ordinary lacks an understanding of society.

Inserting social change is not immediate or easy to do. It takes work in the form of communication, education, and patience. If you are not willing to put that work in, change will never occur. If you do, change will appear as fast as you like, but it will happen.

@TheSentinel I'm not a politician -- regardless the Left is incapable of governing let alone compromise. They want to disenfranchise 30% of the country and then SYSTEMATICALLY exterminate them

I used to believe in this notion that being a democrat was being someone that wanted to be all inclusive and compromising. It was very genuine on my part.

But after seeing the rise and now fall of MAGA, I think it's about time Democrats speak up and speak loudly against what nearly destroyed our democracy.

I used to believe in this notion that being a democrat was being someone that wanted to be all inclusive and compromising.

it still is.

But after seeing the rise and now fall of MAGA, I think it's about time Democrats speak up and speak loudly against what nearly destroyed our democracy.

A compromise with MAGA is not possible. History has shown that these deals do not work. Why would we even try it. The GOP core should have been aware of that.

When Mitch McConnell states that he does not really care who gets elected, as long as that gets him the Senate Leadership position, I don't see how one can compromise with him either.

When Lindsay Graham says "use my words against me", only to flip you the bird, when he does it, there is no room for compromise.

When Evangelicals back the most corrupt, amoral candidates, there is no room for compromise.

We cannot compromise, when it comes to fundamental principles. It's time to take a stand, else we will lose the freedoms we have.

Ron De Santis is just as dangerous as Trump. Gilead is around the corner.
Northwest · M
So, you think there's a chance the Colorado US House Democrat delegation can work with Lauren Boebert? There is no such thing as compromise in this case.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Northwest I remember this!
Northwest · M
@Peapod I think it’s important to recognize the difference between compromise over reasonable, but differing positions, versus a devil’s bargain.
Peapod · 61-69, F
@Northwest indeed.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
I'd like to see Democrats in the House work with the few moderate Republicans in the House to pass sensible legislation on a bipartisan basis. Good legislation would have a good chance of passing the Senate and being signed into law by President Biden.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarkPaul As well as the other Republicans who voted for Trump's impeachment.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@windinhishair It's hard to feel sorry for him though when he traded winning elections for satisfying the whims of Cry-Baby-trump.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarkPaul I don't feel sorry for him at all. He deserves everything he gets.

I want Democrats to grow some balls and be as ferocious as the trash that's been infesting our government like rats and roaches. I still recall Michelle Obama saying "When they go low, we go high" and it pisses me off. That's why Trump won. Weak liberal democrats are sickening. Strong leftist dems are what's needed.

work across the isles

What an apt turn of the phrase. With the gridlock we have, it is like the two parties are stranded on their separate islands of ideology with no rescue ships or planes in sight. The chasm is much more than working across the aisles; so across the isles is far more accurate.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@whowasthatmaskedman He said when he lost his first run for governor he went out into the districts he LOST and listened to them. He was asked for an example of what he learned, and he said I learned how for decades through various financing regulations, zoning laws, other restrictions we essentially made it extremely difficult for black and brown people to buy homes. And historically, buying your own home has been the first step to accumulating wealth in this country. I could hear the MAGA crowd immediately throwing CRT fire bombs at him, ignoring the fact their approach just lost them the governorship of a major blue state with a history of electing -- and then re-electing -- Republicans who were collaborative across the aisle, like Weld and Romney before Baker.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@dancingtongue I have the good fortune to live in t country where to most people the color of your skin is a way of describing you, not a way of judging you. So I get it. Its the people who express racist points of view who usually get judged here. Sadly I dont see things changing there on the scale needed until the fertilizer and fan collide..😷
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Unfortunately, people of color here have been waiting more than 200 years for that collision to occur. 😜 And while there has been some progress at different points, the collision doesn't wipe out the problem but only drives it more sub-rosa.
Poppies · 61-69, F
Yes. I'm a little worried that if control of the Congress is split that there won't be any getting on.....but we'll see what happens! Hoping for the best.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Poppies But almost nothing useful has gotten through congress in years anyway..😷
eli1601 · 70-79, M
No. I want the GOP House to put a halt to everything except the investigations and possible impeachment of Garland, Mayorkas, and Slow Joe.

Also a new J6 committee to investigate Nancy Pelosi
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@eli1601 That sounds perfectly rational..😷
eli1601 · 70-79, M
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
While the people probably are, there are still too many in the leadership that arent and will stop any progress at any price..😷
calicuz · 56-60, M
Not gonna happen. It doesn't fit into their "divide and conquer" agenda.
jackson55 · M
Not likely to happen.
Of course.
The conservatives don't want green anything or even peace.
So, we lose. Nothing forever but endless war so that forests can burn away.
Ive noticed the less they do, the more money stays in our pockets. Its ok with me if they do the bare minimum.

"Divisiveness" won't magically disappear when part of the country believes in reality and part of the country believes in alternative facts

If one side believes humans must breathe air, while the other side believes humans must breathe water and are trying to drag the rest under the water's surface, how do you "work with" the drowning side? Please explain.

And that would apply to ANY country
Ontheroad · M
@SW-User part of the country and part of the members of Congress are sensible, moderate thinking people who can work with one another IF they grow a set. They will have to tell the fringe to go pound salt and basically ignore them, but it can happen.
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
Republicans aren’t interested in policy. False equivalency I’m afraid.
