Similar to surge pricing for Uber rides, some restaurants are considering charging you more when it gets busy. Basically, price gouging. Considering that as scale increases their expenses go down per order, this is pure greed.

I’d never go to a restaurant that implements this

A few local restaurants had an early bird dinner discount with meals that were mini versions of the dinner menu. Not to be confused with the lunch menu. Like from 4:30 to 6 p.m. It went over well.

@JonLosAngeles66 :) the surge sounds like a way to piss off customers and send them elsewhere.
@Heartlander I agree

I spent many years working in restaurants. I don't eat in them.

I just wouldn't go during peak times. I don't like crowds anyway. Coukd you imagine if fast food places did this too?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I would absolutely boycott any restaurant that does this.

I already avoid busy times at restaurants...

@jshm2 You've managed to insult the OP and conflate the issue. 🤨 Who is the brightest?!

Where did you see that a restaurant would waive a surge price for reserving a time during peak demand? Most high-demand restaurants already accept, some even require, reservations. It would make zero sense to implement such pricing under your presumption. 🤦🏼‍♂️

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout one of the justifications is that "Happy Hour" with reduced priced specials has been around a long time.
