Should minimum wage be raised? Absolutely to what? $?$?$

I won't quote a dollar numbers. What I will say, is that it needs to be a single living wage.

Defined as enough for a teen out of high school to reasonably afford Rent of a 1 bedroom apartment, transportation, food, healthcare, education.

INDEPENDENT of mom and dad at the rate of 40 hours a week. 160 hours a month or less.

That's supposed to be the minimum. Not the top tier of the skilled pay scale. More skilled trades should be paying FAMILY LIVING WAGES. Which of Defined as a wage that is MODESTLY capable of SELF SUFFICIENTLY supporting a family of 4 at the rate of 160 work hours a month 40 hours a week.

It should roughly keep up with inflation, but I don't agree with what is commonly called a "living wage."

@Bumbles there is "Living wage" as in single living wage.

And then there is "FAMILY LIVING WAGE" which is a wage that can support a family of 4 at the rate of 40 work hours a week.

@Alabamarednek Right, I don't think minimum wage should be that kind of guarantee.

@Bumbles I think the 'living wage' should be above tbe poverty line.

For years I hear people scream about those getting welfare freebies....ok, then give them a wage that gets them above the poverty line and good productive citizens and tax payers.

@JSul3 I think as I mentioned generally keeping up with inflation, but I don't know what that is in relation to the poverty line. I know that the new min wage for fast food workers in restaurants will put some places out of business because the margins are so low. That may be okay overall depending on what you think about the issue, but it will happen, as will costs being passed on to consumers.

I am not against welfare, but I do thin raising the min wage will help people. It's about how much.

@Bumbles
According to the most recent report issued in January 2023, the poverty threshold for a family of four is $29,960.Aug 24, 2023....$576 per week...$14 per hour.

@JSul3 Yeah, I agree it should be higher.

@Alabamarednek I have issue with tbe $ amount too.
$18-20 seems closer to reality based on the costs of food and housing alone.

@JSul3 Just give them another handout right!? That's your best idea? Working toward a better future is a concept that completely eludes you!
JSul3 · 70-79
@Nitedoc Where did I say handout?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@JSul3 quote: "then GIVE them a wage that" That's handout.
