The Current Disaster in Ukraine

Many apparently believe that when the Berlin Wall came down back in 1989, and then two years later the USSR imploded, that these events signalled the final end to the 'Cold War'. This is rather strange when you actually consider all that took place after these events, and the current (and rather sad) state of the world today. The 'Cold War' over? [i]It never ended![/i]
In fact, the so-called Doomsday Clock is now closer to midnight than it's EVER been, and maybe I shouldn't, but I DO worry about the war in Ukraine getting worse, and spreading to other nations within Eastern Europe. Need I worry? I think so!
The truth is I don't "support" either side in that, profoundly stupid, war. Both sides (and by that expression, I mean NATO and Russia, not Ukraine and Russia) in the conflict seem determined to make it even worse, and being the politicians they are, they don't give a damn about anyone or anything apart from "saving face"! It's sickening, it truly is.

@JSul3 You must be joking. It was the other way round. Ukraine attaked Russia as early as in 2014. Russia is only defending itself against Ukraine and now the entire NATO.

If I punch you in the face on Wednesday, and you kick me in the balls on Saturday, you don't get to call self-defense because I punched you in the face on Wednesday. Russia isn't defending itself. Russia has invaded Ukraine and is trying to obliterate them.

@ATripToNowhere You are literally defending a country that committed numerous war crimes in order to invade and occupy a neighboring country, and you think you're in a position to call someone else a fanatic? As someone else has very wisely pointed out, there's a little thing called the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which Russia specifically promised not to invade Ukraine. But hey, what's a broken treaty or two among friends, am I right? After all, Ukraine did something bad 9 years ago. That justifies anything Russia could do to Ukraine now.

The other discussion leans too heavy into conspiratory talk which you like I know I mean you deny scientific evidence and research for example climate sciences so nothing you say should be respected and taken seriously anyway
