Can we have a "progressive alliance" in Westminster?

Nicola Sturgeon wants the SNP, Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens to unite in order to get rid of the Tories. It's a nice idea but Labour and the Lib Dems are stubbornly against it and probably hope they can form their own formal coalition. This will help Nicola anyway as she can say even the slightly better English parties don't want us to have a say.

I imagine the SNP is fighting to still remain relevant.
Finally get an independent Parliament and have two votes on independence and it was rejected twice !
You have to wonder where they go from there.

They'll be the biggest party because in a time when Labour is all but dead, the only viable alternative is the Tories !
And most don't want that !

@dunpender: I'd suggest VERY relevant if your whole ethos is about returning home rule to Scotland.
firefall · 61-69, M
That would make excellent tactical sense, so of course JC will be dead against it.

The people next to him will tell him he will lose votes if he agrees to work with the SNP.
firefall · 61-69, M
@thatscottishguy: I'm sure that that is what they will tell him.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@firefall: Ed Miluband ruled this out last time and it was a mistake because nobody believed him. Its just what would happen if the seats fell that way so might as well admit to it. He will be attacked sure but the Labour right are in cloud Cuckoo land and have deep seated cultural hostility to the SNP . Such a strategy would not stop Labour supporting their Scottish MPs but the Labour institutionalists would still see it as a betrayal.

I agree with you but its still a rock and a hard place.

They need to get their act together quickly and come to some sort of agreement on who stands where. I can't see it happening.

I read that as wrestlemania
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
😂Can John Cena and Randy Orton form a progressive alliance in their tag team match?

Lmao

@thatscottishguy: Tim Farron tags Sturgeon before she power slams Nigel Farage. 😂

No, they fight like rats in a sack.
It won't make any difference anyway, Tory landslide here we come

@thatscottishguy: if they fight the election on the promise of one, it'd be impossible to deny them one. I think Theresa May said "after the election" recently.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@SandInMyShoes: That's what they did for the Scottish election and people claim they still don't have a mandate.
SandInMyShoes · 36-40, F
@thatscottishguy: With a local and national election fought and won in Scotland on the promise of it, nobody could deny it. And it's only fair, self-determination and all that.
MartinII · 70-79, M
They would have to get a majority in the Commons first! They are in a minority, taken together, at the moment.

@dunpender: Yes, but not enough to "get rid of the Tories", as the post put it. And none of us knows what the balance of power in the next Parliament will be.
