Can we have a "progressive alliance" in Westminster?

Nicola Sturgeon wants the SNP, Labour, the Lib Dems and the Greens to unite in order to get rid of the Tories. It's a nice idea but Labour and the Lib Dems are stubbornly against it and probably hope they can form their own formal coalition. This will help Nicola anyway as she can say even the slightly better English parties don't want us to have a say.

That would make excellent tactical sense, so of course JC will be dead against it.

Can understand why he wouldn't. There would be more backlash from his own party if he works with the "Nats".

@thatscottishguy: as opposed to the backlash he gets already? or compared to how much he'll get torn apart when the Tories win a landslide?

I can see why he wouldn't want to cooperate, if his only criteria is remaining in control of the Labour Party, no matter what. Otherwise, it seems a poor choice to me, in terms of the good of the Party, the good of the nation.

The people next to him will tell him he will lose votes if he agrees to work with the SNP.

@thatscottishguy: I'm sure that that is what they will tell him.

@firefall: Ed Miluband ruled this out last time and it was a mistake because nobody believed him. Its just what would happen if the seats fell that way so might as well admit to it. He will be attacked sure but the Labour right are in cloud Cuckoo land and have deep seated cultural hostility to the SNP . Such a strategy would not stop Labour supporting their Scottish MPs but the Labour institutionalists would still see it as a betrayal.

I agree with you but its still a rock and a hard place.
