Guns or butter? This is an economic debate America hasn’t held since the Vietnam war.

Photo above – supplies of Patriot Missiles are critically low. It takes 2 years from order to delivery to get new ones. It might take a month or so for Iran to build one of its armed drones, at 5% of the patriot cost. Guess what happens next . . .

My news feed is full of competing headlines: ‘America faces a critical shortage of missiles and ammo”. And “food prices spiral out of control”. This is an economic debate which hasn’t taken place since president LBJ sent 50,000 Americans to their death in Vietnam, to prop up a corrupt regime.

Guns or butter first became a meme in World War 1. The war to end all wars. Food coupon rationing. Gasoline rationing. And again in World War 2. 2026 government rationing is byzantine maze of tariffs, embargos, price supports, subsidies, government stockpiles and taxes. Everyone pays more, but only the wealthy can continue to consume without restraint. If you’re tying to feed your family, or fill the gas tank to get to work, you have to suck it up.

Despite the white house claim (below) that missile supplies have never been better, I’m going with the media on this one. They turned out to be right on the air force one shell game. A bunch of secret service public relations guys are going to jail for telling the truth on that one. No doubt there’s an FBI and CIA investigation underway right now to jail someone for talking about depleted missile inventories. Even NATO is talking about it, as Putin ramps up his threats to launch attacks in places like Poland.

I’d be okay with America continually getting baited into being the worlds policeman, but we’re not getting paid. All we’ve gotten for our efforts in the middle east so far is a gilded jumbo jet from the Emir of Qatar, and a picture of some sheik of Abu Dhabi shaking hands with trump after backing the president’s latest get rich quick scheme – a crypto bank. How safe are the banks we use from loan failures and state sponsored hackers?

Back to the food inflation side of this economic debate.

I have no idea which of my grocery store stuff has tariffs on it. Or whether those tariffs (taxes) are 10%, 50% or 100%. Trump just rolled back the 25% tariff on New Zealand beef. A move that made US beef producers lose their minds*. “This will mean smaller US beef herds*” (and profits). Screw the citizens who actually might want to buy a hamburger! Beef producers are now undoubtedly calling the white house and congress, threatening to withhold campaign contributions, bribes, and crypto bank investment money.

VP Vance just broke ranks with the president. He told his 2026 backers NOT to send campaign contributions because groceries were too expensive. This is a diabolically clever campaign talking point, no?

Lets hope the president doesn’t launch an FBI and CIA investigation of Vance too, for telling the truth.

I’m just sayin . . .

Trump dismisses US weapons stockpile concerns amid Iran war; says 'what we've used is peanuts'

Who baited America into this conflict? Nearly every other nation has vocally criticised what increasingly looks like Trump's vanity war. The security of the Gulf States has been seriously compromised and whole regions are edging towards recession as a result of America's miscalculation.

@SusanInFlorida Being in hock to Israel's lobbyists is the exact opposite of acting as the world's policeman. In as far as any rational motives are perceptible, Trump sought to further US economic opportunity, which has backfired spectacularly.

@SunshineGirl i don't think we're "in hock". ii think america is irresponsibly giving away military gear to be misused by the receipients. that's actually the opposite of being in hock

25% tariff on New Zealand beef. A move that made US beef producers lose their minds*. Its not the type of beef you have in USA. I’d be okay with America continually getting baited into being the worlds policeman, but we’re not getting paid- You were afraid of communism, leftist , democrats , liberals.

@Khenpal1 the tastiest beef is rumored to be "waygu" from japan. force fed enormous amounts of corn, and massaged. its like $100 a pound.

japanese rice is expensive too. only their cars are affordable, apparently

@SusanInFlorida try it , I don't like it

@SusanInFlorida Japanese Waygu is VERY overrated. The American version is far superior ,as well as cheaper.

"shortage of missiles and ammo"

media was saying same thing about russia two years ago... how's that going? 🤔
SusanInFlorida · 31-35, F
@wildbill83 they're buying their drones from iran, i hear.
SunshineGirl · 41-45, F
@wildbill83 Russia spends 7.5% of its GDP on defence (compared to 3.25% for USA), has an inflation rate of around 8%, and has resorted to sending convicted murderers to the frontline. Do you think this is sustainable?

Small side issues: If they were ordered from China they would take 6 weeks and cost half as much. Thank you for your attention to this matter..😷
