How is it an act of war?

newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
It was Doug Ford who suggested switching off the power to 1.5 million american homes and that the americans had better have a pack of batteries 😂

Prime Minister Carney said:
Canada fuels American growth: supplying 99% of their natural gas imports, 85% of electricity imports, and 60% of crude oil imports, I don’t think they want us to stop sending it
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@newjaninev2 To me it doesn't sound like a threat, it sounds like a person reminding us that is what could happen. Americans have seem to forgotten that we used to be a diplomatic nation that makes deals and had a network for electricity and other stuff. Our power used to be where programs that Elon ironically got rid of that's where our power was.

I don't take it as a threat, I take it that someone gave the same energy us Americans give out, doesn't feel so good when the shoe is on the other foot eh.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@SatanBurger Absolutely.

That guy who owns all the MAGA puppets talks about a 60 billion dollar trade deficit but deliberately fails to say that it's 60 billion dollars of power asked for by the americans.

In fact, per capita Canadians spend around seven times more on american goods than americans spend on Canadian goods.

Keep Calm and Carney On!

Countries have a right not to give into excessive demands from any govt. Govts including ours have a duty to come to the least resistance solution possible for the well being of people's welfare and should always do things with citizens in mind.

Cutting the electricity exports is not an act of war, it's simply saying they don't want to give into the increasing demands of an insane administration. Does it create tension and escalates? Yes it does but the US is also doing this by not being reasonable.

The damage has already been done in the Iran war, we been in this war for awhile and you're just now saying that starting another war possibly with Canada will make it better. Putting troops there is doing nothing but declaring more hostility.

If you think cutting the electricity exports is something to whine about imagine when we keep bullying countries and someone metaphorically comes in to slap the American out of us.

I suggest quitting, tariffs are a bad idea and while a lot of things are damaged beyond repair, sometimes we need to walk away before we get hit. If Americans cared, they'd stop this nonsense.

Canada is not cutting electricity to the US. But Ontario has put a 25% surcharge on the electricity they export to the US and other provinces might do the same thing. Cheers!

@jshm2 China will bite. There is a strong relationship among Chinese in Canada and those in China.
mksworld · 51-55, C
@sree251 China might stop making Maga merch for trump if he doesn't do what China wants

I think you'd better read up on what's an "Act of War" and what's not!!!

Cutting off commercial electricity exports as economic retaliation during a trade dispute is not an "act of war" under international law, though it represents a severe form of economic coercion.
sree251 · 46-50, M
@Rabbit420 We are not dealing with international law. We are talking about Donald Trump who is guided by his own morality. Nothing else.
Rabbit420 · M
@sree251Pedophile Don has no morals. He is also void of any ethics!!

I presume you're American and my next question is what do you mean "your electricity" ... If it comes from Canada is but this till you pay for it.....
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@Convivial it’s kinda like “my car comes from Japan / Germany “.

Carney is a very shrewd and intelligent man. He can deal with complex problems.
Whether he has the political nous to outwit random Trump remains to be seen.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@peterlee Prime Minister Carney is too much of a gentleman to engage in a battle of wits against an unarmed opponent

I googled "Threatening to cut electricity is an act of war" and didn't get much in the way of confirmation. Didn't do any better with "cut electricity is an act of war"

@Nanoose Why is a ground nut in Trump's brain? What is the connection? Has it got to do with Jimmy Carter the Peanut farmer?
Nanoose · 70-79, M
@sree251 No it's like saying Trump has a pea brain - but with a ground nut. Cheers
sree251 · 46-50, M
@Nanoose I see The connection of ideas is too simple. I will have to slow down to a crawl to get what you mean. Speed up, man. We are in the AI age and everything is going at light speed.
mksworld · 51-55, C
That's Donroe Doctrine dickheadedness at work
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
They don’t have the cojones. Canada threatens sounds like satire.
tenente · 36-40, M
This is news only because a country refused to glaze President Donald Trump and actually stand up for themselves. The rest of the world should take notice.
