"Pope should 'stick to matters concerning the Catholic Church," said JD Vance.

What matters concern the Catholic Church?? The Pope is the vicar of Christ whose kingdom is not of this world.

Does the US Vice President have a point?

He should speak out about christian ethics the opposite of Trump and his regime.
Nanoose · 70-79, M
I think he said it to get back in Trump's good graces. Cheers!

Vance thinks the cult will automatically make him the new cult leader when trump is gone.............because he kisses trump's ass so well and enables him and makes it look like he is just like trump. He has a surprise coming.

JD Vance may be dumb and slower in the head than Trump. However, he is married to the daughter of an Indian Brahmin, the highest caste in India. Usha Vance can anticipate Trump's moves and guide the hillbilly accordingly.

The reasons Vance and trump don't like the Pope..........

The Bible says...
1. thou shalt not kill
2. Feed the hungry
3. shelter the homeless
4. Heal the sick
5. Do not persecute or evict the immigrant for you were all once immigrants in Egypt
6. The love of money is the root of all evil
7. Thou shalt not have any gods before me............despite what trump posts about himself
8. Do not abuse children

In others words.......100% of what trump does and says....... 100% of the time.........while calling himself a "christian" is a complete polar opposite contridiction of what the Pope stands for and teaches. And we all know.........if ANYONE disagrees with trump and his corruption..........that automatically makes him an enemy.

Is the Catholic Church doing what the Bible says? Is the pot calling the kettle black?

Is the Pope running the Church any better than the US President running the world?

Those are relevant questions.

Those are vital questions for one who is not a dunderhead living in a rudderless world.

As I think you have suggested, terms like 'prophet' and 'dissident' depend on where you stand.

To avoid digressing, let's focus on Vance's admonition of the Pope.

Everyone has a personal political agenda. Politics is simply about the way economic and societal structures are organised and faith will inform our judgements on whether some structures are more or less moral.

So, is Pope Leo guided by a personal political agenda that runs counter to that of the US Vice President?? Is the Pontiff poking his nose in US foreign policy on the side of Tucker Carlson and Marjorie Taylor Greene?

I am not a Roman Catholic so only observe the Pope from afar, but since the RCs became embroiled in the politics of statehood centuries ago it's no wonder the role is not clear.

The Pope is not a Roman Catholic. He is the vicar of Christ in the true sense of that role. Is that so? Or is he no different from a goddam priest or pastor mouthing off on the Iran war?

My reading of the Gospel message is that it is not party political in itself (how can it be, since it was first proclaimed in an absolute dictatorship?), but followers of Christ, like yeast or salt, are to enhance societies by their words and deeds and while also pointing to things beyond the material.

I see.

What do you mean by "absolute dictatorship" through which the Gospel message was proclaimed?
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@sree251 The absolute dictatorship was the Roman Empire.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
No. He doesn't understand his own Scriptures where God's prophets often stood up against the 'rulers' and power brokers to point out where they were going wrong.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@sree251 Sorry if I misinterpreted your request for an example, but since I had mentioned Vance's lack of understanding of Scripture I used a Biblical example. More modern political 'prophets' might be Dietrich Bonhöffer in Nazi Germany, Martin Luther King in the segregated parts if the US and Desmond Tutu in apartheid South Africa.

Ok, thanks for pointing those instances out. I am not sure that those examples you cited were not invested in personal political agendas. Pope Leo might be in the same boat as Dietrich who resisted Hitler. Is Pope Leo a spiritual guide or, like Dietrich, who was a dissident?

Vance should stick to the bathroom wall.

Other that being Trump’s fluffer, Vance serves no purpose.
