In the US it is far worse. MAGA has made using clean energy more difficult and expensive.

@samueltyler2 The whole thing appears to be charged up with ideology, in the US. Green, sustainable energy is seen, by many, as leftist crap, and "real Americans" drive "real cars".

Britain has many creators and potential producers of 'clean energy'.
But we lack the storage capacity; transport system and political will to ensure THIS country's people benefit FIRST, before playing the game of trying to supply anybody else for a profit.
You'd have thought lessons would have been learnt since the Suez crisis wouldn't you ?

Some of my friends have an e-car, and photovoltaics on their roofs. They couldn't care less when it's about gas prices. They don't need Russian oil or Iranian gas, they just use what Mother Sun provides for free. 👍🏼
Does the UK have any oil deposits?
Yes, the UK has proven oil reserves estimated at 1.5 billion barrels, primarily located in the North Sea. However, production has been declining, and the country is increasingly reliant on oil imports.

@Uhohuhoh So may as well conserve it for future generations. I wish Canada would do this instead of destroying the country trying to sell it to everyone else.

@MisterBander conserve it by going green and using less ?
@Uhohuhoh If it costs too much to extract, leave it where it is, some day it will be worth more than gold.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout our economy was booming partly BECAUSE of the move to green the environment!

You do realize that governments make more money off taxing the oil companies than the oil companies make in profits, so blame the government not the oil companies
Waveney · 41-45, M
@Prison1203
LOL!!
You are confusing basic economics and it shows!!
Governments do not make more than oil companies in any meaningful sense. You are lumping together completely different things and pretending they are comparable😂
Taxes on fuel are largely paid by consumers at the pump, not by the oil companies themselves. Companies collect those taxes and pass them on. That is not profit. It is not even their money.
Oil companies still report massive profits after costs and after taxes. Those profits go to shareholders and executives. Government revenue goes to public spending. Comparing the two is like comparing ticket sales to a cinema’s profit and claiming the audience is richer than the studio.🤦🏻♂
Your argument only works if you ignore who actually pays the tax and what profit means. Once you understand that, it falls apart immediately.
This is basic stuff you missed fella 🤭

@Waveney I’m comparing facts , sorry they don’t teach you those in Britain
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Isn't it worsened by the electricity sales in the UK being subject to a levvy (a tax to you and me) to subsidise the rather absurdly-named "renewable" forms of generation?
Uhohuhoh · 56-60, C
The problem has very little to do with the type of energy or availability of natural resources but more that we have allowed basic needs to be provided by private enterprise in a weakly regulated way . i.e rampant capitalism
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@Uhohuhoh I agree. I think there are some things private enterprise can do well, and others best kept in public ownership, although under the conditions that the Government does not try to manage them and that the Treasury does not take too much of the operating profits (those should be used for investment).
There may be a case for our own country's (not foreign) pension-funds and the like holding minority shares in them, but without executive power.
