Kennedy Memorial For The Performing Arts

Trump announced that it will be closed for two years, starting in July, for renovations.

In other words, Trump has not been able to get anyone of significance to perform there, since he added his own name to the building.

He did use it for the Melania documentary screening on Jan 29.

Seeing a photo of the facade after Trump stuck his name on it, I thought it bizarre and morbid to dedicate a building to his own memory, especially while he is still alive.

Oh, and isn't putting his own name at the top disrespectful to whom it really commemorates?
Like other public buildings on public land in Wash DC, a whole pile of permissions are needed to renovate. It needs authorization from Congress, approval from the National Park Service and the National Capitol Planning Commission, and compliance with the Historic Preservation Act.

tRump found a loophole allowing him to demolish the East Wing of the White House, but he can't build anything without all of the above permissions. Let's hope they can block him from demolishing the Kennedy Center.

@ElwoodBlues He has a history of just doing it anyway and paying the fine. In New York he would ignore local rules. They should make him tear down any unauthorized building.

@ElwoodBlues that's lots of things Trump does with out permission...

Exactly, he's trying to hid the fact that every act that was booked to perform cancelled after he put his name on it and no wants to perform there now.

The Kennedy center is losing money and Trump’s solution is to shut it down for 2 years and pour a bunch of money into it. Cheers!

@Nanoose That's the business acumen that bankrupted casinos.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@Nanoose For sure he is going to make it tacky and tasteless.

What a legacy. Inserts himself on the board of a national institution, runs it down into the ground, then shuts it out of embarrassment for the remainder of his presidency at a net cost of hundreds of millions to the taxpayer.

Glad they found at lesst one cinema to show that film.🙂

didn't he also fire the entire board of directors and replaced with his own?
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn So it is reported. I don't know how he thought that would enhance either the venue or him.
JimboSaturn · 56-60, M
@ArishMell They were too "woke" It's going to hard to find good artistic people that are fasicst.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@JimboSaturn I'd not be surprised if even artists who normally vote Republican, are among those boycotting the venue, perhaps in solidarity.

Facts.

What hasn’t Trump ruined?

I'm sure when he's finished it will look as garish and obscene as the Oval Office or a Mar a Lago toilet.

Can you imagine all the bling the poor building is going to covered with?

@DrWatson He is going to have a UFC fight at the White House for the 250 anniversary. Classy. The rest of the entertainment sounds like Hitler's Nazi style celebrations.
