You know who isn't getting paid right now? ICE

And many of them are on government travel using government travel credit cards that will likely max out and go delinquent unpaid in less than a month.

Who would love to see them walking off the job homeless and stranded in cities they've been temporarily assigned to, as they hitchhike home. When all this happens, Trump isn't gonna give a dam about them.

Wrong.

Federal contingency planning and recent reporting indicate that most U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) employees classified as "essential" would continue working during a government shutdown and are likely to be paid, though the timing and legal basis vary. Department of Homeland Security guidance and contemporary reporting say ICE and Customs and Border Protection operations largely continue because many positions are funded through mandatory, advance, or law-enforcement exceptions to shutdown rules [1]. Legislative proposals like the Pay Our Homeland Defenders Act of 2026 would explicitly guarantee pay for DHS law-enforcement personnel during funding lapses, reflecting ongoing policy attention [2]. Reporting around the shutdown notes federal operational continuity for essential personnel, while nonessential staff face furlough or layoff risks [3] [4].

@independentone It's a legal document. Of course they use that type of language.

Point being, they are considered essential and will continue to be paid through the shutdown.

@SumKindaMunster most essential workers will get back pay but are not getting paid right now. That I know personally!

@Handfull1 It's been 4 days, were you supposed to get a paycheck already?
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@SumKindaMunster unless what was told to employees was wrong, they will not get a scheduled paycheck without a settlement. Hopefully, it ends soon.

@Handfull1 "they"? I thought you were personally affected?
Handfull1 · 61-69, F
@SumKindaMunster They in general. Personally doesn’t have to mean just me. It could be family, etc. I have never been able to discuss much as security is involved. The way of the world unfortunately. Sigh

@Handfull1 I understand what "personally" means. So in this circumstance it isn't you, but someone you know?
