Conservatives never believed in those things. I recognize there is a difference between the so-called moderate Conservatives and the globalist ideological Conservatives, but in practice, it's always been more about the movement. And the movement is authoritarian in nature.
Even the part about free markets is a lie. Conservatism was founded as a compromise when Capitalism became the law of the land. What the Right actually wants is a return to Feudalism. Liberals are ideologically capitalist, while Conservatives see Capitalism as a temporary tool.

I believe I have been saying that the MAGA are not Republicans for quite a few years. And that groups like the Lincoln project are far more conservative than these MAGA RINO'S.

Fiscally and economically they are they are not conservative and for free markets. Controlling the price of goods is closer to their dreaded planned economy.

@JimboSaturn There is a historical precident here. Back in the Roman empire. When Rome was "going broke" through overspending on the military and the tribute from the colonies wasnt arriving, the current Caesar ordered "bread and Circuses" to be free for all. And enforced it with solders in all bakeries. And everyone was happy at free food and free entertainment. Until the grain warehouses ran out.Then the riots started..😷

@specman Then I think we have quite a lot in common. My views are conservative (among my group) The differece being that I look carefully at the numbers. Its cheaper in the long run to educate a poor person properly than it is to deal with the consequences of him turning to a life of crime or poverty. Similarly it is cheaper to provide decent health care than it is to deal with the costs of chronic health problems when you factor in the lost taxes and contributions that person doesnt make to society. So for purely non Socialist reasons, thats the way I would go..
