Trump Orders New Census Excluding Noncitizens

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he has directed the Department of Commerce to begin work on a new census that excludes noncitizens, likely setting up more legal challenges against his administration.

“I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024,” Trump stated on Truth Social. “People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” the president added.

If implemented, Trump’s more accurate census would likely reshape congressional representation across the United States, with Democrats potentially losing dozens of seats.

Article I, Section 2, Clause 3: no mention of citizenship

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons. The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

Also, they are in the country ILLEGALLY. Know what that means? They can't hold a job legally without the proper authorization. How are they paying taxes? They need to be deported.

Why would a genuine government want to not count a category of people? It could decide how to treat this category after receiving the data, but to not get the data in the first place makes no sense...

@walabby Not if they don’t live in the country or are on the way to being deported. And they aren’t a category of people. They are aliens to this country who are here because they disrespected and broke the laws of the nation. Therefore they are illegal aliens. They should not have the same representative voice as legal US citizens.
