It was simple a theft of a name to discredit good men like like our 16th. Old Southern Democrats were hated after the Civil War so to rebuild they changed their name to confuse people.

The Republican Party was against the abolition of segregation and the civil rights movement. Black people around white people the Republican Party would have probably call that “ the beginning of Hell on earth”
