...and now it's the only thing you're talking about as well. You must like it too!

@swirlie 🙄

Keep in mind, America is on the verge of becoming a fascist oligarchy. When you're in that environment, it's hard to avoid politics. I'm sure during the Weimar Republic, a lot of Germans were like, I'm so sick of hearing about the Nazis!

Also, just looking back, it might have been a bad idea to keep religion and politics out of "polite conversation." The result is now that Fascism has become normalized. Maybe we should have taught children in school that democracy is good, autocracy is bad.

What’s AOC?
You’re just biased
@Ferise1 I mean, I am biased towards policy that improves the living standards, sure.

My theory is that because social media is one of people's primary responses to isolation and boredom, they instinctively hone in on identity politics in order to both properly define their social group and to stir up drama in order to find something or someone to engage with.

Everything these days is a statement about 'this is who I am' or 'this is what I believe' in large part because of how socially distant we are from one another. It's a psychological response to the indignation of not feeling a sense of belonging. It's looking to assert one's identity, and to highlight the virtue therein, by any means necessary.

It's kinda how like when guys feel emasculated by something they make a big show of bravado proving to others how manly they really are. It's all just the product of an unhealthy ego's need for validation
Coming in particular from a military family I learned from about the age of 9 that everything is ultimately political. The thing is we live in a society that tells us that politics is a thing that happens once every 4 years. Mostly because those at the top benefit from keeping the masses oblivious for 99% of the time.

Polite people don't so they won’t disagree

But it’s a major issue anymore that can’t be ignored

The difference, we are headed into an abyss that may lead to the destruction of our democracy, followed by who knows what. The division in the country is getting uglier.

Not talking/caring about politics is what led people here and now they're realizing en masse that putting the head under the sand was a dumb move

And here we are
