What ever happened to not talking about politics?

Heard it my whole life (that and religion) and now it’s the only thing people talk about. Boring and sad. Anyways, enjoy your summer.

My theory is that because social media is one of people's primary responses to isolation and boredom, they instinctively hone in on identity politics in order to both properly define their social group and to stir up drama in order to find something or someone to engage with.

Everything these days is a statement about 'this is who I am' or 'this is what I believe' in large part because of how socially distant we are from one another. It's a psychological response to the indignation of not feeling a sense of belonging. It's looking to assert one's identity, and to highlight the virtue therein, by any means necessary.

It's kinda how like when guys feel emasculated by something they make a big show of bravado proving to others how manly they really are. It's all just the product of an unhealthy ego's need for validation
