When you hear people say “Kids today have no respect”

What I hear is "I’ve done something that causes kids not to show me respect, and I'm not mature enough to acknowledge I did something wrong."

Not always, teens can be rebellious as it is and learn from other teens. And in situations where one parent is resentful of the other they will teach them to have bad manners and disrespect especially if the situation has gotten so bad that a divorce is the result.

Apparently what happened at PS102 in 1955 stayed at PS102? And PS103, and PS104, and ...

"Blackboard Jungle" and "Rebel Without a Cause" may have been movies, but they were movies inspired by what was going on at home and at many of our public school.

You're one of the few people to figure this out, but I believe doesn't have anything to do with generations but the parents.

@Chickie agreed
True. Though society in general has moved away from disciplining children. Especially in American schools.

Interesting viewpoint, that the child is always right regardless.

Lord of the flies anyone?

@CookieCrisp Hmmm .... thinking back to the to the 50s, with a kid in the street, most drivers simply stopped rather than serve around them.

I remember as a 9 or 10 year old riding my bicycle to school with my school stuff in the front basket. I hadn't secured it well and the papers started to fly out. Reaching to grab the papers I lost control of my bike and fell in the center of the roadway. A car directly behind me stopped and the driver got out of his car and singled oncoming cars to stop. Then helped me get up, checked that I was OK and helped gather the papers and scattered school stuffed and after a few minutes had me on my way again with but a minor scrape on my elbow.

It would probably be the same if it happened today. But maybe not as likely.

Both are true, some do questionable things while some teens truly lack respect.

Or they expect the world to remain frozen in time in an era they have decided was better.... for them based on emotion.
