Trading for sport and being neighborly about it in the process is one thing, but Trading because one's country is wholly dependent on another country's natural resources is quite another thing that Trump hasn't caught up with yet.
What Trump still doesn't know, yet every Canadian is well-aware of is that Canada has already made arrangements with other nations to buy every drop of oil Canada can export, in addition to every roll of high-grade aluminum that Canada can produce annually since Trump said today that the USA needs neither of from Canada.
Canada doesn't need the USA because there isn't anything in the USA that Canada doesn't already have on it's own shelves except for orange juice I suppose, but the USA desperately needs Canada because America has virtually no natural resources of it's own except for coal and small deposits of lithium, but virtually no crude oil at all anymore except for 'strategic oil reserves' up around Alaska which of course are for emergency use only.
Trump seems to think that becoming a protectionist isolationist country, that America can get along just fine on it's own. It was tariffs and a protectionist mentality that prevailed in America after the WW1 that led to the Great Depression of 1929 plus 10 years of abject poverty throughout the USA that followed.

@swirlie Trump lives inside a bubble of his own making.. A Valid comparison the the bubble the majority of Americans also live in regarding their own nation.. But global commerce has evolved and wont go away. It will just leave them behind ...😷

Trading with the USA was convenient for many nations for many decades. Trading with America was like putting your goods up for sale in a Costco or a Walmart store, where the USA can be compared to a large big box store with lots of shelf space for rent. But that's all the US ever really was to the rest of the world... was shelf space for rent with a guaranteed clientele of addicted American consumers of anything and everything.
The USA is now closing it's doors to business, no longer offering it's shelf space for rent, while posting big signs across the world stage declaring itself "Going Out of Business, Owner Retiring in 2028!".

@swirlie Also the US used to be THE market and THE Currency to have. Thats changed. The Middle East has the money and Oil. China is rising and India is not far behind. The US is going to come out of this struggling to hold on to third place if it is not careful..😷

Very true, the US does lead the world in weapons sales.
What the USA doesn't lead the world in however, is ammunition supply. Canada is the manufacturer of ALL military ammunition that gets shipped over to Ukraine by the US military, which is also to say that Canada supplied ALL the ammunition to the US military for the entire Vietnam War effort as well as WWII.
Supplying ammunition to the US military was Canada's only contribution to the Vietnam War from 1958 to 1975 and Canada supplied it to the USA for FREE.
The reason that Canada became the supplier of ammunition for American-made weapons is because Canada has the natural resources to make those munitions, whereas the USA has absolutely none.
I find it really odd that America can make guns and cannons but it is incapable of making the ammunition that is used in it's own firearms, don't you?
