For decades I've been saying that we need a businessman for president as politicians just can't seem to handle the country's finances. Well, now we have one and despite all the hatred and the obstacles they've thrown at him, he seems to be doing quite well for the country and the American people.
As a person, I think he is super egotistical and can be brash and brazen at times, but he is doing a tough job and succeeding. His agenda makes sense and he is one of the few that actually are trying very hard to keep his campaign promises and get the country on the right track.
@IM5688 He was a failure as a businessman. As a president, he lost more jobs than anyone other than Herbert Hoover.
Just admit you like Trump because you hate America.

@BohemianBabe It's all you democrats that hate America. Allowing illegals in by the millions, funding foreign wars before taking care of our own people first, etc.
And Trump is not a failure as a businessman. Failed business people are not usually millionaires/billionaires. If you are referring to his bankruptcies, bankruptcy was put in place by the federal gov't. It's a business tool just as tax loop holes are.
@IM5688 I'm not a Democrat.

It's not just that he went bankrupt over and over, it's that every business he ever had failed. The only reason he's still rich is because the government gives rich people subsidies in order to keep them rich. There's no meritocracy under Capitalism, just a system that treats people like some kind of master race that must be kept rich if they were born into wealth.

But business failures aside, Trump's first presidency was an undeniable disaster. He was the second worst jobs president ever.

@BohemianBabe A lot of those job losses were due to COVID, not Trump's fault.
@IM5688 It was Trump's fault because he failed to handle covid.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@BohemianBabe No one knew how to handle covid. And if you remember, when covid first hit, it was people like Pelosi who were urging people not to lock down until they changed their minds about it. Also, trump offered and sent help to NYC during covid and they turned him down purely out of Trump hatred.

@IM5688 please tell me what he has done well for me? My investments rose dramatically during POTUS 46, by any measurement, the US economy was the best in the world, the highest GNP, lowest inflation, lowest unemployment. In less than 100 days the US has become the world's pariah, has lost the respect of the world, has been plunged into a stock market crash likely to lead to a recession at least. Are you better off now than on January 19?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@IM5688 unfortunately the country chose a businessman that drove his companies into bankruptcy 6 times!
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@samueltyler2 And over 320 of his developmants succeeded, which is pretty good odds in anybody's game
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@samueltyler2 Bankruptcy does not equal a failed businessman. Bankruptcy is a business tool put in place by the federal gov't.
Example: You buy/build a casino because it's the new "in" thing that everyone wants to spend money on. It takes off and you're doing very well. Then, the novelty of it starts wearing off. Less people are going probably because the next new "in" thing has come along. So you're business starts to tank.
It's not your fault that people aren't attending. Add to this picture the fact that the economy changes also. if people can't afford to go out and spend money, your business will suffer and again, it's not your fault.
Bankruptcy was put in place to protect you so you would not be in debt for the rest of your life just because your business failed due to no fault of your own.

@IM5688 Ask he/they/it how he/they/its solindra stock is doing
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@IM5688 but screws all of your creditors, a good businessman adjusts to market trends so they do not have to declare bankruptcy! What about medical debt? Should anyone have to declare bankruptcy, and can they even do that, if they are not covered by insurance?

@IM5688 Yep! I can inly imagine the challenges to developing a hunk of real estate in NYC. The politicians who have to be coddled or handled, the bankers, the unions? What a great practice environment for later becoming president. What a great practice experience before doing it again.

@IM5688
Trump is not a billionaire. He only says that he is but his track record speaks otherwise.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@swirlie Does it really matter whether he is a billionaire or a millionaire?
swirlie · F
@IM5688
The truth is, Trump is neither.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@swirlie So what? Makes no difference. He is still president of the US and his agenda, like it or not, is going forward. Don't like the way things are going? Then feel free to leave the country.

@IM5688
I'm not disputing the fact that Trump is the President, but what I am disputing is your perception of who you think Trump is as a businessman.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
@swirlie He does have successful businesses. He does own loads of real estate and has amassed a fortune. Millionaire or Billionaire, like it or not, Trump is, (not saying he is perfect at it,) a good businessman.
@IM5688
He does have successful businesses.

Name some. Which of his business projects were successful?
